Russia Banned from Winter Olympics by I.O.C.

Russia’s Olympic team has been barred from the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The country’s government officials are forbidden to attend, its flag will not be displayed at the opening ceremony and its anthem will not sound.

Any athletes from Russia who receive special dispensation to compete will do so as individuals wearing a neutral uniform, and the official record books will forever show that Russia won zero medals.

Also, it seems scary (and I know no where is safe) that the Olympics will be held in South Korea, given the hostility uncertainty of North Korea.

It would actually be the most secure time to go South Korea (At least when it comes to North Korea). With thousands of Chinese citizens competing and attending there is a 0% chance North Korea would do anything.

The Russian ban is nonsense. Punishes athletes that had no part in the doping scandal more than anybody. Even though they can compete independently the reality is without government funding it would be a longshot for them to have the funding. Then even if they could get the funding there is the risk that they would be labelled traitors in a country where you don't want to be labelled a traitor. Fine their Olympic committee and ban people that were caught in the doping scandal but punishing so many innocent athletes that have dedicated years of their lives to an Olympic dream is just garbage. Especially when the I.O.C. are not exactly in a position to be judging ethics

No NHL, no Russia...... the highlight of the Winter Olympics sure has had a massive dump taken on it

Nothing is going to happen. This "war" has been a nothingsburger for over half a century. North Korea just likes to shoot off a rocket every now and then to pretend they are powerful. They know if they actually started a war they'd get obliterated in a matter of hours. South Korea is as safe as anywhere in the world.
