Default After Oct 31, which will be the first player

After Oct 31, which will be the first player to support BD-J 1.1? I'm itching to buy a Blu-Ray player, but want that latest BD-J hardware to be in there when I do.

I believe the Denon will have and the PS3 has BD-J.

Well, remember that players can come out before that date which support 1.1, it's just that all players made after that date MUST support it. So be on the lookout for upcoming players (like the new Samsungs) which can support it.

So will that mean that the Sony BDP-S300 will support it? Maybe a firmware update? I also like that Panny DMP-BD10AK. I know the PS3 will support it by means of firmware update, or so I heard, but I don't want a PS3.

What about the current players being made? I mean, are they going to be stopping manufacturing on Oct 30th and just make different model numbers? Or will the current players hardware be updated? Then, what a mess trying to get one made after Oct 31.

AFAIK, none of the current stand alone models are capable of meeting v1.1, even with firmware updates By all accounts, the PS3 is capable of compliance via firmware update, and folks believe Sony will provide one.

Player models introduced prior to 10/31 are not required to comply after 31 October, so no model # change is necessary. Current player models will continue to be made (until the manufacturere chooses to stop) and they'll play Blu ray movies just as beautifully as they do today, including titles released after that date.

As of today, the newly-announced Denons are the only players unequivocally advertised to be 1.1 compliant, but there are enough bits of information floating around that it sure appears that the upcoming Samsungs will comply, though Samsung has not (yet?) said so.
