Default 1080p/720p problem with HDMI

I have a 1080p 42 inch Westinghouse. I use HDMI and this problem happens on both my 360 and PS3. It only happens with HDMI, I checked with component and nothing happened.

If I play a game in 1080p, the picture looks fine. If I play it in 720p, there will be a line on the right side of the screen going top to bottom. It goes and comes but frequently so it is almost always there.

Does it do this because I'm trying to run 720p on an HDMI cable?

Like I said I tried it with a component and it wasnt there, but on the left side of the screen there was a solid black line going from top to bottom so I switched back.

720P through a HDMI is fine, faulty cable possibly? Sorry I am fairly new to this so not a pro but I use HDMI with 720p.
