I don't think they have been chaotic. My idea of chaotic is when threads with legitimate posts and discussion just vanish without explanation. Ive seen vey little evidence that we need babysitting.

Before iScottie just came in and cleaned up some of these threads I counted at least 15 on the first page that didn't belong in the normal threads section. There's still at least 9 questionable ones on the first page that don't really belong in this section. Without moderation and rules any forum will fall apart. For the most part we don't need "babysitting" as you put it but rules are stepped on all over here on a regular basis and something does need to be done.
Moderation is a good thing.....not a bad thing if you think about it.

I was just hoping someone who spoke "3dese" could help with stickies to explain better region b, native 3d blurays, german autoconversions etc. and provide stickies for these topics and remove the little used stickies.

I appreciate Scotti getting back to us.

I hope the moderators will consider input from the 3d community as no one knows 3d better than the posters here. i too do not want a moderator that stifles freedom of speech. But it would be so nice to have someone like the13thman to organize the stickies and keep the areas on track, though infrequently needed. Many people on here have done a lot of work in helping me to understand the sometimes complex issues of 3d and it is a shame to let that go to waste.

i do believe these changes would be nice for people beginning their love for 3d; and I know I would like these topics in one place.

I've seen forums that were utter cesspools. I don't think this forum was like that. It's entirely down to the people you have participating.

There were a few threads in the wrong place and a few unnecessary duplicate threads, but I could live with that. I ignored that stuff. I don't think the forum was in danger of falling apart. None of this was as annoying to me as seeing discussions shut down and posts that people put thought into get deleted. If the thread is in the wrong place, then move it elsewhere, posts should only be deleted if they really crossed the line.

I can agree with moderation when abuse is being thrown around and politics are being brought into it. I have no argument there.

What are some of the biggest issues with the 3D forums? Can you regulars please give me a list of things you'd like to see improved upon?

Thanks!

No big deal, though the main thing is to remember as others here have suggested, is for those new to the forums is that there's a 3D Technology discussion thread for any New Thread about the state of Blu Ray 3D distribution unrelated to a specific 3D movie, that would fit there the best, as well as threads about 3DTVs, VR and stuff like that. Usually any new thread that relates to the repeated question of "Is 3D dead yet?" since 2011 when those threads first started appearing, should go into the 3D Technology section IMO since it relates to the state of 3D itself, and not movies in 3D.

But if it relates to the 3D within the movies and the 3D movies themselves, then the Blu ray 3D Movies section is fine, including future 3D movies on the way.

With this action-needed thread, they might just delete it or move it to that section, not sure.

For the most part it's mainly people posting anything and everything right here in the "normal threads" section.....the one at the top of the list.
There's four different areas that make up the 3D forum section.

3D Blu-ray Movies

3D Blu-ray Players

3D TVs, Projectors and Displays

3D Technology, News and General Discussion

We need someone to move threads to the appropriate forum when they post in the wrong one. Maybe educate forum members and post the rules somewhere in the stickied section so they are more clearly understood.
Some people have requests for the stickied section as well to be restructured and some threads need to be added to the stickied as well. It took me multiple attempts just to get the "Now On Sale" thread stickied.

I think the biggest gripe is the "3d is dead" threads which don't belong in this section and only serve to demoralize other forum members. There are other threads such as the one about the Darbee device that are clearly off-topic but don't seem to bother anyone.

I personally believe the sticky section should be revised from time to time. Some threads are obsolete or abandoned:
1, Why are there moving black bars
2. Complete list of full hd titles
3. Region coding on 3d releases (this gets discussed in every movie thread)
4. Was " " filmed or converted (hd goofnuts sticky is more informative)

One is arguably out of place:
1. Playstation 3 - 3d discussion

And another is so popular it doesn't really need a sticky.
1. The last 3d bluray you bought or watched.

Which can help make room for more pertinent stickies without filling the entire first page of threads with stickies.

I will moderate. If you love 3D, you are welcome! If you hate it, you can bugger off! (I’m joking of course!)

Imagine how bad I would be at moderating. I would just ban all people who have switched to Digital!

Hello Scottie:

Yes it would be nice if:

(1) we had a long term 3d contributor to the site who is on everyday to review the site for the times when a thread is started that belongs in another section, and is able to be contacted concerning this section of the forum, and is very familiar with 3d.

(2) That person could also reorganize the stickies to make them more relevant and up to date.

For example:

Thethirteenthman's threads on region a, region b, and auto conversions, are just an example of what should be stickied and the stickies currently addressing these issues should be removed as they are not up to date.

I think we all love the forum as it is except for these small matters, and I just thought it might be a good fit to have a "local" do this, such as Paul H or Thethirteenthman or HDGoofnut, or anyone else who is a regular on the forum.

Thank you for listening to our concerns, and I apologize if I overstepped my welcome. Everyone is so nice on this forum and it is such a wonderful site I just wanted it reflect the love we all share for 3d.

Frankly I don't care about the naysayers of 3d on here and what they say, but other feel differently and I leave that for others to speak on that issue.

Maybe it’s one of the most posted in threads because it is stickied. Unsticky popular threads and they get lost in the shuffle.

Yeah, I would consider the UHD threads chaotic before the 3D threads. Those UHD threads can get very hostile. I visit both and the 3D threads are much more friendly in general imo.

I still see people ask about the moving black bars on some 3D titles, so that is still very helpful and should remain.

This is so true. I even see people ask about it in other forums and I always give them a link and refer them back to here to read that thread. It's a very helpful and informative thread.

You're right, they keep asking so they apparently don't read that thread but instead ask about it or mention it in the specific movie thread. This is classic FAQ material IMO.

Thank you for the feedback, folks.

I hope to have some free time over the next few days so I'll make an attempt to look at the 3D forums, cleaning up thread titles, moving threads to the proper sub-forums, and rearranging sticked threads (if need be).

As a general comment, I'm not going to censor any members from voicing their opinions or concerns, whether it be admiration for 3D technology or fear for the future of the format. I understand there's a lot of debate about whether 3D is on the outs, and in my opinion, it is a relevant topic. I'm all for healthy discussion. That being said, if a member grows hostile and flames or derails certain threads, please report the posts and a moderator will take care of it.

And if they’re going to post them at least keep them out of the normals movie area of the forum and leave it in the 3D technology and discussion area. The normals area is for posting about 3D movies in theaters and upcoming releases and current/future movies on 3D blu ray. Anything else either needs to be posted in one of the stickied areas or on one of the other 3 areas that make up the 3D forums.

3D Blu-ray Movies

3D Blu-ray Players

3D TVs, Projectors and Displays

3D Technology, News and General Discussion

Since a lot of you are so passionate about the 3D forums, I feel it would be best if I worked hand-in-hand with all of you in order to ensure that everything is in its appropriate sections.

To begin, I'd appreciate some feedback regarding the sticked PS3 thread. From what I understand, the thread was created as an opportunity to discuss watching 3D movies via a PlayStation 3. Is this still the purpose of the thread? If so, I think the thread would be better suited in the 3D Players section. I'd also update the title to reflect PS3/PS4.

On the surface, I would say this belongs in the 3D Blu-ray Players section since the title is hardware-specific. However, most of the content in the thread seems to be about 3D games (and movies), so perhaps renaming it 3D Games and Movies on PS3/PS4/PSVR would work. I would go as far to equate games and movies and say it is currently in the correct section. I should also note that I have no horse in this race, as I neither have any of this hardware, nor am I a game player. I would defer to anyone who is involved with this part of the 3D universe (and if it should remain stickied).
