Only very large files have taken me a while to install. Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty (a gig and change download) took me a couple minutes to install. The two Penny Arcade games took me 30 seconds or so to install. Demos always took me around a minute or so. Nothing near a full game install on a computer, so it doesn't bother me one bit.

I find my download times are all over the place. One day I could download a file 500MB-1GB in a few minutes, the next day a 50MB file could take 30 minutes.

XBL downloads are usually size-limited. The average PSN download is larger, and therefore will take longer to install. The above-mentioned R&C: QFB and Burnout Paradise, as well as things like Warhawk, are all more than 1 GB in size and will therefore take quite a while to install.
Small PSN downloads work just as fast as typical XBL downloads - there just aren't as many of them because developers aren't required to meet some artificial ceiling in file size (and compromise game quality because of it). |

I can deal with the slower speeds I experince on the PS3, that doesn't really bother me. What does bother me, is the fact that I have to install after I download, I don't know why these things are seperate functions, I wait forever for it to download and then I have to install, I just want to play.

Without starting some kind of console debate, I've always been curious why the same demo downloaded on XBL and then the PSN requires an installation on the PS3 but will run instantly from the 360. Have never really read an explanation, it's not a huge deal honestly, just curious.
Also just speaking from personal experience, but I find the PSN to be fairly slow compared to using XBL If I have the choice between the 2, for demos I usually go with the XBL, but it could just be some kind of issue with my router. No idea. But it seems like a lot of PS3-owners I've talked to that own both can attest that the PSN seems to be a smidge on the slower side. Last edited by ThingontheFloor; 01-05-2009 at 03:20 PM. |

Downloading and installing is fast here for me.
I only experience slow download when the demo just hit store, traffic lag would be to blame, especially if it's a demo everyone's been waiting for. Other then that, I have no problem with my PSN download speed what so ever. |
