Cecil B. DeMille's visually stunning Cleopatra is one of the most spectacular motion pictures ever to hit the silver screen. Nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture, the historical epic stars Claudette Colbert as the cunning Queen of the Nile who, wielding her beauty like a weapon, lures Roman leaders Julius Caesar (Warren William) and Marc Antony (Henry Wilcoxon) into her web of royal deception and betrayal. Featuring a newly remastered and fully restored picture plus insightful bonus features, Cleopatra is a breathtaking masterpiece that captures the best of Hollywood's golden age.

Well, this is good news. Not The House That Dripped Blood good, but it's pretty darn close. Just put my pre-order in. Thanks, OP!

Great news. I regret letting MoC's edition go out-of-print.

Looks to just be a port of the MoC (and without their beautiful steelbook design or booklet - I can only imagine the banner/text-heavy hackjob Universal's intern whips up with Photoshop!)

Is this actually going to be true, or is it just typical studio cut-and-paste boilerplate, and they'll simply be using the 2012 master?

So weird to see this coming out of nowhere. Any particular reason why they're releasing this now? Like a new Cleopatra movie or show on the horizon or something? It's not even an anniversary-timed release. In any event, I'm glad to see an older Universal catalog from them again.

There's one of each in development. The film, which has been in development for years, is now supposed to be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by David Scarpa.

This Blu-ray announcement is unexpected but very welcome! If I'm not being too greedy, I'm still hoping Universal will release "The Heiress" with de Havilland and Clift one day.

Good news for anyone who missed out on the MoC release. I have the steelbook myself but glad to see this get a Region A release.

Since it was MoC, I figured Criterion would license it (or at least what I'd been hoping for years now). Didn't seem like the type of thing Universal would do themselves. A welcome surprise for sure.

Well no matter what, it will be a new remaster for the U.S. market. So they will use that language either way.

Does the MoC need a remastering??? I know old review scores don't mean much, but that review seemed to indicate it was in good shape and wasn't hit with DNR. We should only hope Universal leaves it as is. Of course a new 4K remaster would be great, but based on that review it very well may have already been a newish 2K or 4K scan.

Universal should have released it as a double feature with The Sign of the Cross

Totally stunned to see a 1930s movie direct from Universal that's not one of their classic horror films. I guess it's too much to hope for others, but I will definitely be purchasing this one, especially as I never got round to purchasing the MoC disc, and didn't realize it had gone out of print, either.

Yeah, I knew their Steelbook went OOP, but just noticed the regular one too. I do regret not getting the SB a few years back, it was dirt cheap then.

Hell to the yeah. This is the best Cleopatra, and Colbert gave such a magnificent performance. Never expected this from Universal themselves though. Always expected it to go to Criterion or someone.

Double Indemnity, Touch of Evil & Silent Running all looked better on Universal, so I hope it will look better. The MoC Cleopatra was such an old release (released over 5 years ago) that I guess there is room for improvement.

I have the MoC steelbook, but will buy the new Blu-ray for sure for the Region A playability & possible PQ improvement.

Wow, fully restored. I just have the old Cecil B. DeMille DVD set from ages ago, so I'd love to upgrade it. Fun film, for sure.
