Default Help with my son going blu

My son wants me to get him a blu ray player for his 21st birthday next month. I have a Sony blu ray player, its the 2nd one that came out, the number escapes me. What would be a good one to get him as his first Blu player? We have been partial to Sony and he has my old Sony 50 inch HD TV (not lcd). Any ideas? How are the newer Sony blu players? Thanks everyone.

Not sure what ur budget is..but the BDP-S350 would be a very good one. You should be able to snag one for $250ish or if you are a costco member grab the BDP-BX1 they're about the equivalent.

i have the sony BDP 550, and i like it a lot, load times are pretty fast and PQ is top notch.. dunno how much your looking to spend but its around $399, you can do a price compare at BB and get it down to $324... bought mine almost 2 months ago, dunno if price dropped but you should check it out...great player though

have to agree for a first timer, the 350 will work based on the TV he is using he won't see the Blu benefits with resolution...

That is the one I was thinking about, I noticed that BB and CC still show it as $299, sounds like I have to broaden my searches......lol

Top notch standalone you could get him - The Panasonic DMP-BD35. Unless he plays games and whatnot - then PS3!

I second the PS3,I just love this thing

Iam just in the process of grabbing a blu-tooth keyboard for the Ps3 so i can bug people here on Blu-ray.com from my plasma TV .
I love the idea that i can surf the net ,

Great blu ray player with all updates for firmware(the best support i would say for any player)

And ofcoures Awesome games.
Iam not a gamer,But after watching my boys play Call of Duty 4 if think i just might start playing again

Ps3 all the way, he'll love you for it

What are you talking about "the 350 will work based on the TV he is using".

Sorry, just sounds like a kick in the ribs when you say it that way. Makes it sound like its a bottom of the barrel Blu-Ray player when in fact it has actually been rated quite well and the audio and video are both top notch. Makes no difference which Blu-Ray player he gets, even with that TV he WILL still see the benefits of Blu-Ray over DVD even with a TV that is only 720P/1080i.
