I didn't see a thread about this film. I know it's already premiered most places, and didn't get much of a wide release.

Mainly just posting for a place to discuss in the future. I'm seeing it tonight, which prompted the search for a thread.

Saw this film earlier in the year, and felt it may have served better as a TV miniseries. Worth a watch but I don't think it's as good as some people do.

I was sad I missed this when it came to L.A., if it came to L.A.

Looks pretty intense and well-done. I'm definitely interested in seeing this. A couple of questions:

1) That woman who is speaking out in the classroom -- she looks very familiar. Does anyone know who she is?

2) To anyone who speaks French -- beyond my ability to maybe ask directions -- what did he reply at the end of the trailer, when the other character says, "I never asked you what you do." They didn't subtitle that last part.

Thanks.

I liked The Class, which Robin Campillo wrote, but I've heard mixed enough things that I'll be waiting a bit before checking this out.

1. Thank you.

2. Thank you.

Jeez, she's the starr of The Unknown Girl by the Dardenne brothers. I JUST watched that! Good lord, my memory is just falling apart, piece by piece. Thanks again.

BTW, excellent film and she's great in it.

Probably won't get to see this until iTunes drops its rental price. $5.99 for a rental is a bit much.

Really ? I’ve heard almost nothing but acclaim. I think some more conservative types clutched their pearls over the sex being quite explicit in this, unlike in the more awards friendly and decidedly less political Call Me by Your Name.

Apart from writing The Class, Campillo also wrote and directed two films which I think are fantastic: Les Revenants, which the French TV series The Returned is based on and Eastern Boys, which was a combination of gay love story and thriller which should have gotten a lot more attention than it did. I

I can’t remember any explicit sex scenes in it. This had a lower rating than call me by your name in my country.

It's been a few months since I saw it in theaters, but I do remember not so much the action of sex than two characters in an extended scene of naked embrace. I thought it was clever how this particular scene seamlessly integrated to another intimate scene in flashback.

Is this a 2017 or 2018 release for the US? It's on VOD for a while now here, might give it a rent in the coming weeks.

Yeah I remember something like that too, nothing I’d call explicit though

I think I've seen quite few underwhelmed responses on Letterboxd. Nothing outright bad, just stuff that seemed a little less excited.

There are sex scenes, but they are not what I'd call explicit. No frontal nudity involved.

Overall I liked it. I'm not an overly critical film viewer and I mostly "like" everything I see. (I choose wisely) The editing really stuck out to me. As mentioned earlier, there are some scenes that have very interesting transitions that I found quite fresh. The only initial negative thought is that it was a bit long. I think it could have been cut down some more, as I feel some of the scenes were somewhat repetitive.

Bottom line though, I'd consider this a must see. Really great performances from several actors and it's one you wont be forgetting anytime soon.

I never look at Letterboxd, just reviews.
