Default HDMI to DVI conversion for PC

Hello all!

Just seeking a bit of advice, fixing to get a new computer in that has HDMI out in the video card (ATI Radeon HD 3450 256 MB), my current monitor is a Olevia LT26HVX 26" LCD TV & PC/HDTV Monitor. I do believe it is HDCP compliant.

That monitor does not have any HDMI input, I plan on getting a HDMI to DVI converter cable for it. The audio is not an issue as I will hook it up seperately. I'm just curious of the HDMI-DVI converter cable will yield any better of a picture (for both computing and blue-ray movie viewing) than using a DVI-DVI cable.

Any thoughts?

I think they're essentially the same thing. HDMI just has the capability to provide video and audio. I don't think you'll see any difference when using the computer. Viewing blu-rays, I guess it'll depend on if the DVI-to-DVI supports the copy protection. Seems like it would since HDMI-to-DVI cables work just fine.

BTW, I use a HDMI-to-DVI cable with my 2nd PS3 and a Westinghouse 37" LCD monitor that only has DVI connections. It works just fine.

You need to confirm whether or not the DVI port/s on the videocard support HDCP or not. If they don't, then you should definitely use an HDMI to DVI cable.
