Default Yay my first thread "whacking" by the HDDVD zealots at AVS!!!!

I thought it was very well conducted and fair to ask since they closed the Target thread and cliamed it had been refuted (obviously it hasnt so i felt it was misleading since Target IS in fact carrying BD exclusive STANDALONES as clearly stated in the news releases)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Target Stores said it will carry Sony’s $499 Blu-ray Disc player as its exclusive high-definition home video system during the critical holiday selling season
This was the lead text in the Target article.......Im just wondering how a mod or AVS decided to lock and change the thread about Target players saying it had been "refuted" Who refuted it? The HDDVD zealots here?.......its written clearly in the text that the article was merely about this holiday season and the introduction of a BD Standalone exclusive system......

Why would a mod lock a thread simply because too many fans of a different format ignored the actual content of the article and directed attention to the endcap that sony purchased.......and then even go so far as to say that based on their inability to read or comprehend what is being written say "it has been refuted"

Another quote:

Quote:
Target would not say why it decided to sell only Blu-ray players. Sony is paying a fee to have their products featured in the end-of-aisle display, called an endcap, although Sony executives said the retailer contacted them about the decision.
from http://www.timesdaily.com/article/20.../APF/707250873 the AP

I think its a shame and terribly sloppy that the mods here jumped on this train. I encourage anyone to read the original HMM article or the times daily one i have linked. These articles were NEVER about Target NOT selling HDDVD products, merely the announcement that they will ONLY be selling the Sony BD S300 in stores throughout the holiday....Both articles CLEARLY state that Target will continue selling HD DVD software as well as the 360 addon, it merely is offering ONLY the S300 as its EXCLUSIVE standalone high definition option....

There is nothing refuted, and nothing to refute.....its a shame a respectable forum such as this has stooped to this level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Granted i cringed during the last sentence, but I had to type it to try to keep the thread alive as long as possible

There was an article on IGN that "refuted" the Target article. The article itself was somewhat misleading, as it was written basically from the viewpoint of HD DVD, saying that all Sony did was buy space in Target, the same as they do at any retailer. They went on to say that the exclusivity is bogus because they're still selling the 360 add on. But wait a minute, HD DVD guys . . . I thought video game consoles didn't count as players?!?!?!

I've started losing respect for that forum. There are SO many people on there spewing all sorts of junk, and people get modded down for ridiculous reasons. It's still a great place to get some setup advice or reviews on products, but the NEWS content is so blatantly biased.

But a forum should be just that--a forum. A place to express opinions, thoughts or theories without resorting to attacking people. It's OK to have differing views, but when you cross the line towards censorship (other than, say, profanity or pornography), they just look like a bunch of jackholes.

AVSforum moderation definitely leans towards HD-DVD.

I am really enjoying watching HD-DVD die, and will not be nice about it when visiting AVS as things get worse.

IMO a lot of those HD-DVD fruitcakes at AVS will crawl back into the woodwork over the coming year though.

We'll see.

I would add though that some of the mods there do try to be fair. It is not a totally black and white issue at AVS.

For instance someone just started a thread, "Blu-ray will contain spyware"

which is obvious FUD/smear

and the mods changed it to, "BD+ will contain executable programs?"

Which is more reasonable.

AVSforum will eventually be forced to go Blu because Blu-ray will win the format war.

They will have no choice.
