Exclamation Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell in Talks for "Iron Man 2"

Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell in Talks for "Iron Man 2"
Wed, January 7th, 2009 at 3:43PM PST

Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell are reported to be in talks to appear in "Iron Man 2"

Variety reported Wednesday that Mickey Rourke -- the actor who’s earned superlative praise for his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” -- and Sam Rockwell -- the indie film fave who can currently be seen in "Frost/Nixon" -- are in talks with Marvel Studios to appear in the forthcoming sequel to the 2008 hit “Iron Man.”

Rourke, a star of 1980s cinema whose career was revived after an appearance in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s “Sin City” – also based on a comic book – is, according to Variety, rumored to play Crimson Dynamo, a burly, nuclear-powered answer to Robert Downey, Jr.'s svelte and suave Tony Stark/Iron Man.

The Hollywood Reporter, however, has Rourke confirmed to play a Russian named Ivan who becomes Whiplash, "a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils."

For his part, Rockwell is rumored to play Justin Hammer, "a multibillionaire businessman" and rival of Tony Stark. Rockwell recently starred as a sex-addicted con man in "Choke," based on the Chuck Palahniuk novel of the same name.

Directed by Jon Favreau and written by Justin Theroux, “Iron Man 2” will be released by Paramount Pictures in the summer of 2010.

Iron Man 2 is making a run at TDK for the better sequel. Will it happen? Chances are, no. But Iron Man 2 should kick ****ing ass

I am a fan of old-fashioned tough guy actors like Mickey Rourke (Love Year of the Dragon). I find it funny how actors who can't find work are one good job away from being the hottest thing going. It's like winning an actors lottery or something. Look at John Travolta after Pulp Fiction.

Talent such as Rourke and Rockwell can only make the second that much better.

I'm more concerned about the choice of villains. I looked them up. They don't seem interesting at all! Whiplash has potential, but he just has those coils; he can't even fly. I wonder how much of a menance these 2 villains can be since they've even added War Machine into the mix!

I hope they don't go too heavy with the bad guys.

We already have rumors of Crimson Dynamo, and now Whiplash. As well as Justin Hammer.

And there's also the rumors that Black Widow and Hawkeye will appear.

It definitely has a chance to have more replay value if they improve on the first.

Darren Aronofsky mentioned on the Stern show a couple of weeks back that Mickey Rourke's phone is starting to ring alot more after The Wrestler (I can't wait to see that movie by the way). Anyway, it would not be a surprise to see ol Mickey in a high profile film in the near future.

Hmmmmmm. I don't know anything about these baddies so I can't really say if I like 'em or not. Like others are saying it sure seems like alot of villians are gonna be showin up in this one. That or maybe alot of them are just gonna be setup roles in this one and will appear full force in later ones.

Best news EVER! Rourke is awesome, the guy can act.

First i read about Rourke joining Stallones "The Expandables" (which looks absoluteley amazing btw, Oldschool)

Then im reading about Iron Man 2..what a day! Have been a fan of Rourke for a long time.

Lets hope its true that hes also going to star in "King Shot" the new movies by Alejandro Jodorowsky.

Rourke as Crimson Dynamo is now the more truthful inside news. Apparently, Whiplash was never mentioned for appearing.... This makes me have higher hopes now than before for the villains

The rumors about SHIELD's Black Widow being in it would seem to tie the "Old Russian enemies" plot hints together.

I believe that's "Expendables", although looking at Stallone and Rourke lately, some might argue that point...
