Cool

Some people need extras, some people don't. I'm the latter and pro blu because I know that one day, my bluray movies won't end up as drink coasters

Ok, I can understand...

BUT my point is the possibility that they plan to sell a SECOND Blu-ray version with PiP in it.

Does this double-dipping bother you?

My intention wasn't to get people to buy the HD-DUD version over BR.

I only double dip on movies if they're remastered or they release an extended cut that the director took part in. I like extras and i've watched all that are available on each LOTR extended cut, but i didn't buy the most recent release of LOTR on DVD just for new special features. I've got the theatrical and extended cuts on DVD, New Line has seen enough of my money for standard definition product. Unless they come up with an Ultimate Extended Edition with running commentary by Tolkien's ghost, I'm a little bit of a sucker and that I'd buy.

I'm getting 300 on Tuesday and the only way I'll rebuy it later is if they put out a new version that is vastly different from the theatrical version. I can't see them screwing up the transfer enough for a remastered version, so this will most likely be a one and done for me. If Warner's wants to release another version of this on BLU in the future with more features, more power to them, but I'll be happy with this one.

If they're double dipping just to add PIP, then there isn't a tool in existence that could accurately express my lack of interest. But for example, I'll be rebuying Superman Returns when it comes out with the uncompressed audio, because it's an improvement that is worthwhile, to me. If they do rerelease 300 with a better video transfer, if the VC-1 is not good enough, then I may rebuy for that, but the PIP feature will be skipped entirely. It's rare that I utilize any of the special features on my discs . . . I think Rocky Balboa is the only disc I've actually gone through ALL of the special features on, including the commentary. But audio commentary is good enough for me . . . I know what Sly looks like, so I wouldn't need a video of him in the corner to make the commentary any more thrilling.

Why would you want to watch it in SD when you already watched it in HD ?

People that won't care about the PIP extra feature, like me, will, buy 300 now. In this case the DD doesn't bother me, because a lot of people will probably want that feature, and at least Warner is rectifying it, rather than ignoring it. If DD constitutes repurchasing a title I already own on dvd, then I've done it also, and getting a stellar looking hi-def version of some of my favorite titles is worth it to me.

I seriously don't care about the PIP features. Gimme great picture and great sound and I'm quite happy.

I think once the sales slaughtering takes place with 300 following Tuesday, Warner Studios will warm up a little more to Blu-ray, and perhaps the exchange of all the back room favours to HD DVD will prove unprofitable and a waste of time...

I know blu-ray fans love to use the drink coaster comment, but the fact is that any HD DVD's someone owns will continue to work in existing players. Some will even work in DVD players, such as 300.

I have both, but I'm getting 300 on HD DVD - I don't typically make use of extras, but I am interested in seeing these.

Default 300 on Bluray

Hey guys, i'm new here, been reading the forums for a while but just decided to join. I have a blu-ray player and an hd player. In my eyes it doesn't matter who wins the war, both formats are way better than regular dvds and i'll keep the losing player and the movies I have on it. I'm just curious if the bluray version of 300 came out with the PIP and extra features if people would be playing that as an advantage over hd.
I love watching the extra features so i will probably buy it on HD-DVD although I usually buy on blu-ray (depending on releases).
I hope to be more active in these forums and hope you guys have a great day

I don't really care to much for PIP or extras, but to answer your question some people could be playing that as an advantage over HD-DVD.

I've never seen it. I'm sure I'll watch it a second time. And I'll be able to take it with me and watch it elsewhere.

As I said above . . . there is no tool with which to measure my total lack of interest in PIP features. However, if a BD comes out with better video encoding (a lot of Paramount releases) or better audio options (Blades of Glory, i.e.), then that's definitely a win for Blu-ray. A feature here of there is pretty meaningless considering the number of people who actually watch them. Who came out of 300 and said, Man, I want to watch some special features? Compared to, man, that will be awesome on DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD. People buy the films first, features second, and oftentimes don't even bother with the features. Features on movies are old news, and most of them are so half-assed anymore, that the "value-added" view of features is really not adding much value.

I meant ...watch it in SD when you have seen it in HD !!!
Wouldn't that be a bit backwards? Wouldn't it bother you ?

oh.. yeah, but you may want to see it again. How about in the car? Kids might want to watch it while you watch something on your TV.

Point is, HD DVD is going to be around for a LONG time coming.

There really is very little GOOD news for HD DVD these days . . . and 300 won't be any different.

do you have one of those "crystal balls" or something?...

the market and most of these companies want this over with immediately...

if BD continues this pace all year...it will be over by mid 2008....

This girl finally got sniffed out and was rightfully banned by the mods. Thanks for saving us any further waste of time...

Saw this movie as a demo at Circuit City with both set ups of HD and BD. I noticed in the HDDVD it was very grainy and as for BD looks rather clearer than the HDDVD.
