What are the chances of ALL the marvel movies being re-released in 4k? Movies like Iron Man, Doctor Strange, the first two Thor’s, Captain America, etc.
Is this something that could potentially happen? If so, do you think they will just trickle out or one day they’ll release a huge 4k boxset with every movie in it? |

I mean it took them forever to simply offer 4k on new releases, may be a while before catalog movies get a release. |

Nevermind, just saw that the incredibles is coming to 4k... so Disney may finally be coming around.... expect something around the time Infinity war is released on 4k.

Based only on my assumptions, I would guess that they are definitely planning on releasing most of them. James Gunn loves HDR, I wouldn't doubt he would like to give Guardians 1 the HDR treatment. The rest of them seem like obvious money to be made, I think they are just waiting a bit until 4k starts getting a larger audience. Likely a boxset, maybe similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 1 and Phase 2 sets.
Though if Disney is planning on killing physical media, they could easily just release them in 4k on their upcoming streaming service and no where else ![]() |

I’m sure they will. The next 2 years will be make or break for the format. Last December was big but nothing in comparison to May’s catalogue titles. I can only imagine which releases we will see in Q4. Bottom line is the format isn’t going anywhere.

The best way to make sure we get the MCU movies in 4K soon is to make sure the ones already out/scheduled to release sell well. So buy Thor Ragnarok. Pre-order Black Panther. Pre-order Incredible Hulk, even though it's Universal. And hell, buy The Last Jedi even if you didn't love it (like me). And if you're thirsty for Iron Man 3, buy the German UHD. It's very nice. (But ignore the Iron Man and Iron Man 2 UHDs unless you REALLY want them.)

Disney likes to wait until a format is mature to maximize sales when they re-release their catalog titles. They did the same with Blu-ray when it was new. The only fear this time around is if they decide to go digital only, like BallistikBluray suggested.

My hope was that with the 10th anniversary promotions Marvel Studios has been running (Times Square billboard, posters, photoshoots) that they would do nice 4K box sets for each of the phases.
Maybe when Infinity War comes to disc, but it's doubtful. Either way I'd love all the Marvel Studios movies on 4K. |

If WB release the Middle-Earth films (Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit) on UHD within the next 2 years then I'd say the format is safe for the next 5 beyond that. Middle-Earth on UHD would be a massive show of confidence from WB, if they hadn't shown that already with Harry Potter. I'd argue Middle-Earth is WBs only remaining "holy grail" franchise they have to release on the format apart from the earlier Batman and Superman movies (if you count them as separate franchises to the more recent Batman/Superman films).

But yeah, nothing compared to Middle-Earth. Two separate trilogies, each with theatrical and extended cuts... too much there not to milk it lol |

Once we get the Middle-Earth films, the UHD format is secure I think. I'm hoping they materialise later this year for the 15th anniversary of Return of the King. And I don't think they'll do the theatrical/extended double dip this time. I think they'll just go straight to extended (or include both cuts). I think they've milked that enough that most fans won't buy a UHD of the theatrical editions if there's an extended release around the corner. Failing an edition that includes both, they might just release two editions similar to the recent boxsets; one that includes just the theatrical editions aimed at the casual market and one that includes just the extended editions and a boatload of extras aimed at the collectors/fans. |
