As far as I can make out, the Depth setting does auto-converting, so that may be responsible for causing the picture to shift around a bit.

Even though parallax issues are baked in, adjusting the convergence plane can make it at least a degree more watchable. Generally speaking you want the convergence plane as close as possible to the focal point of the picture. If you're focused on an actor's head, that's where the overlap should have as little parallax as possible. The only problem is this can vary from shot to shot.

Things like foreground sparks and falling snowflakes can get away with massive amounts of parallax because you never focus on those, you look past them.




Yeah, I'd class Jurassic Park as strong 3-D, but not excessively so. I think they hit the sweet spot with it. Very strong would be certain Imax films. My guess is that the giant Imax screen is so far back that larger amounts of parallax are more tolerable, but at home it can be on the extreme end of things.

In my experience, when the 3-D is too strong, in addition to sitting further back, you want to try not to look around the picture too much. Just focus mostly on the middle-ground, and not so much on the protruding elements of the picture.

I have never had a problem with the Imax movies on BR3d even though those have strong 3d. I like the 3d on the Imax br3d discs.

But JP3D and Science News's (something like "Magic Forest") were horrible in that regard.

I did eventually find some 3D settings for my TV, but opted to not change anything because I'm still on my first run thru all my 3D movies.

For now JP is on the shelf till I'm done with everything else.

Ironically, the next thing I watched was the Spiderman reboot which sadly has barely-there 3D.

Talk about night and day. Other than these two, everything else has been very nice though.

I found the 3D in Jurassic Park medium/strong. For me Titanic is a better conversion, and Pacific Rim tops them all.
I have a 2014 LG 4K 3D TV and had a play with the 3D settings but they didn't seem to make much difference.

Yes. I watched JP 3D last night and most of it was strong 3D, but then by the final act with the raptors in the kitchen, etc, the 3D dropped down to medium 3D.

I might be purchasing a PsVR if not just for select titles but because of Jurassic Park 3D. Has anyone had any experience watching this movie in 3D via PSVR? I don’t own a 3D TV and this might be the most ideal way to view this movie in 3D.

I haven't tried watching it with my PSVR, but now that you mention it, that could be a pretty awesome experience!

i remember seeing this in 3D in the theater because I wanted to see JP on the big screen again (it's one of my favorites) and it was during the time when 3D was big so there weren't a lot of 2D showings like there are today and 3D is tougher to find. I wasn't sure going in because it was a conversion, but they did an excellent job with it, and you would almost believe Spielberg shot it with 3D in mind the way all the shots are framed. (He says as much during an extra on the 3D disc)

But I have watched Gravity on PSVR and it's spectacular. And I think I also watched Guardians of the Galaxy, although in two parts because that's a long time to have the VR headset on.

It is a MUST BUY on the PSVR! I have it and watched it last night on the PSVR. The 3D is on par with Pacific Rim 3D. Also a MUST BUY for the PSVR!

Thanks, you two. And yes Jurassic Park 3D was a very special experience for me, making me realize my childhood movie to its fullest potential. It is why I bought the 3D combo pack anyway because the IMAX 3D experience was THAT special. I even wrote a whole blog post about how dimensional the entire film was. It’s as you’ve said, it’s all thanks to Dean Cundey (Director of Photography for that movie) and Spielberg for unintentionally subconsciously filming this movie AS IF it was made for 3D. If the film was already that immersive in traditional 2D, the 3D basically puts you in the movie.

I’m actually that excited to purchase the VR just for this movie! A lot of movies I can live without in 3D but this one is NOT one of them!

PSVR is a gamechanger for watching 3D Blu's, and JP might well have been my favorite experience so far with it! Heck, it's great just for regular 2D Blus.

But the conversion is just incredible, and the pure scale of Jurassic Park and the dinosaurs on an IMAX-sized PSVR experience gets my highest recommendation also! The Ford Explorer has a few shots near the camera where I felt like I was standing right next to it!

PSVR using the IMAX sized viewing screen is SO MUCH FUN. I even had a blast watching some Star Trek The Next Generation Blu Ray episodes in IMAX (Best of Both Worlds and Yesterday's Enterprise).

I think 3D Blu Ray would be everyone's top choice if everyone had a PSVR.

Watching movies on the PSVR does have its shortcomings. Re-centering the screen and the connecting wires. Pacific Rim 3D in PSVR pseudo IMAX is one you have to watch on it!

Still the best version and restoration of JP ever.
The strong color grading is gorgeous, much better than the drab Blu-ray and 4k UHD.
Watched it in 2D and upscaled with an Epson 4k UHD projector, it looks timeless and great.
An unfiltered release of the Spielberg supervised 4k scan (3D Master) would have been amazing.

I'm still getting used to how dim 3D movies are though. Keep trying to adjust the settings to be brighter without ghosting and losing too much contrast.

Might not matter so much with an Epson, but the contrast increase from active shutter glasses made up for the dimming IMO. I haven't really seen ghosting be caused by adjusting settings, but I could see how that could happen with an Epson, since it uses LCD tech.

In general, I'm hoping that we get at least 240 Hz glasses next year, as 240 Hz projectors are established tech now, and they'd dim the image only half as much.

Tech musing aside, I'm glad JP3D still looks great on your setup.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time AND on of my favorite 3D conversions, what a treat for me. This is one I come back to a few times a year when I need something easy and familiar — my “comfort food.” I have an Epson 5050 with somewhere between 1500-2000 hours in the OEM bulb and I find the 3D mode to be actually more comfortable! The brightness level on 2D content (using Natural mode with lamp set to medium) is almost uncomfortable to me now. With no details on your setup/settings, the only thing I can recommend is trying the bright mode with the bulb set to High power, or replacing with a new Epson bulb if your lamp hours are high.

Oh really? So, in a scenario where someone wants to watch this in 2D, would it actually be better to watch it in 3D-to-2D, rather than watch the actual 2D Blu-ray or 4K?

thanks! So, I have a new bulb (actually replacement projector of recent) and I'm using high power. If I set the 3D to high bright, I see trails/ghosting, and even sometimes on Medium. So I set to low. I'm using the 3D settings on this post, and I'm projecting a spandex custom screen (which I believe is 0.7 gain) which could be part of it. Running acoustic transparent setup.
