Pacific Rim 2 cost way more and opened to less than A Wrinkle in Time. How is the former not a flop compared to the latter?

Funny how lower budget movies (Sherlock, Midnight Sun) are disasters but not $150m+ Pacific Rim.

Well for one, Wrinkle isn’t doing anything internationally, while they were never really banking on US numbers for PR. More so China, and is really the only reason the movie got made in the first place.

Are there usually a lot of animated films released between March and June?

Not sure, but I would think there would be more than 3 in the first half of the year.

I hadn't read about the (quite respectable) international numbers for PR2. I assumed we were talking about domestic grosses. Yeah, taking into account overseas grosses, PR2 does seem successful if compared to AWiT.

Cause Pacific Rim will ultimately be saved by international revenue.

There's Duck Duck Goose on 4/20, Blazing Samurai on 5/10 (unless that gets delayed yet again), and Animal Crackers on 6/1. Not a good lineup, but it's something. You could count Isle of Dogs too I guess.

And PRU is likely headed for a decrease in China from the first film, so it is indeed a flop.

Sgt Stubby is supposedly a wide release. Though I got the trailer (I think with Paddington 2) and it looked incredibly cheap, like one of the animated movies which are made available free on Google Play.

That would make like $1m or so opening weekend. The movie looks so dull. I meant somewhat major animated movie.

Well there’s Isle of Dogs, which is being marketed like an animated movie.

PR cost $55M more than TR. If TR is a flop, then PRU is a mega flop.

I blame a really bad choice of director for Pacific Rim Uprising's downfall.

They should've gone the Alien route of getting "hot upcoming directors" take over from Del Toro, but instead we got some TV hack known for those Starz Spartacus shows.

Pacific Rim just feels like a big budget dump.
