Default Close Encounters the only Blu-ray from Spielberg?

I need to know if CE3K will be the only Blu Ray disc released from Spielberg films? I was told that all his other movies will be only coming out on Hd DVD such as ET. Is this true?

CE3K is the first of his films, surely not the last.
The rumor about his films exclusive to HD-DVD is FUD, don't worry.

Early this year Uni announced that ET, Jaws, and Jurassic Park would be on HD DVD, but then they had to retract it because Spielbergo didn't want to put out movies on a next-gen format yet. We're guessing that w/ CE3K coming out on BD and Spielberg yet to say he doesn't want it on next-gen, he has approved of putting it on BD. However, he hasn't said anything about any of his Uni movies coming out on HD DVD, and Uni hasn't said anything either. That has led some here to speculate that he supports BD, although it's anyone's guess at the moment.

Well, Twilight Zone: The Movie is coming out, as is Poltergeist (which Spielberg may have ghost-directed).

Also check out the insider's thread. Speilberg worked with the studio to release CE3K...it has his blessing.

For the record some of Spielberg's other recent releases on Blu are Flags of our Fathers, and Letters from Iwo Jima.

Also I didn't realize this until a few days ago, but we shouldn't forget Memoirs Of A Geisha will be coming out on Blu only as well.

Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima were from Clint Eastwood, not Spielberg.

Just to clear it up for both films.
Clint Eastwood was the Director
Spielberg was a Producer

So, basically, Spielberg is simply against HD DVD exclusive releases.

I think it can be read as Spielberg is pro-highdef

He'll still hold back his big ones for bigger penetration, CE3K is a big title, but nothing compared to ET, Private Ryan etc

Here's what happens when you try to use Spielberg's titles as bait without his permission (you get ***** slapped by Stevie while he puts stuff out on BD):

He worked with many different studios over the years. Some movies like CE3K were with Sony others like ET were with Universal. He has a say on what happens with his movies. The issue is that he can't decide to release in a format the studio will not allow and the studio can't release without his permission. To paraphrase Ken Graffeo from Universal. Spielberg is not interested in releasing in a format that sucks. To many HD DVD fan boys it meant HD, but obviously he meant HD DVD. That is why he put an end to the HD DVD titles but even made extra content for the BDs.

My guess some titles you will see on BD (like CE3K) and some you won't see on any format until Universal comes to its senses

Since Spielberg has a hand in Dreamworks, I wonder what studio, format his titles will be released. I'd like to see Saving Private Ryan on BD, and didn't he have a hand in Band Of Brothers as well?

You think "Saving Private Ryan" is a bigger title than "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind"? You're nuts. I just hope they actally use the ORIGINAL POSTER ART for the cover this time. One of my biggest issues with any DVD art ever has to be the previous DVD edition of CE3K with that huge image of the mothership on the front and even on the damned menu screen! It was impossible to show the film to anyone who hadn't seen it without being annoying and telling them they couldn't look at the box or look at the TV until the movie started playing. PLEASE GIVE US THE ORIGINAL ART THIS TIME! It would be so appropriate, too, considering that this is the original 1977 theatrical version's debut release!!!!!!

Wouldn't it be hilarious if he only allowed his Dreamworks films to be released on Blu-ray and not on HD-DVD?

Yeah, and Spider-Man 3 made one hell of a lot more money than Blade Runner. What's your point exactly? lol
