Paramount Sherlock Gnomes (2018) [No 3D Blu-ray]

I see no one has posted on this one yet. I really enjoyed the first movie so I decided to take the kiddos to the sequel. This one was a bummer. Drab and predictable. As for the 3D I can't recall any popouts and medium depth was about tops. Disappointing day at the cinema.

You've doomed us all but seriously though I doubt we will get a 3d bluray. The reason for this is because every time a movie opens with very little money made at the box office on opening weekend the 3d bluray is the first version that gets canceled. The same thing happened with trolls, captain underpants and fernidad. You could be saying well those were all fox movies and this movie is being released by paramount well I have a paramount example too anyone remember a little movie called monster trucks it says hello.

The first Gnomeo and Juliet 3D was kind of entertaining with some nice, medium 3D most of the time. The timing of this was not the best, during the unusually busy month of March. Especially for 3D films, with 5 3D films this month.

This actually made less than Monster Trucks opening weekend. However that movie sat on the shelf and has quite the history so it's hard to say.

And why wait 7 years to release a sequel to a not very popular animated feature? I'm surprised they even made one.

While I liked the movie I did think the movie was too juvenile and made for little kids. I walked away thinking the movie was enjoyable but feeling I could have seen something that was more for people my age. I also walked away for the first time after the movie was done wondering I would even pay to own this movie even if it comes out on 3d bluray in the United States. I love 3d but honestly the 3d in this movie was very weak I think even weaker than ratchet and clanks 3d. On the positive side the movie made me want to see a new Sherlock homes movie that is about the real Sherlock homes so if it makes kids feel the same way it might have done us all a favor.

Good point. The first was wasn't a giant hit, but I think the producers behind this one wanted a sequel no matter what.

Thanks for the thoughts on the 3D. Medium 3D is good. Was there a lot of mild 3D or mostly medium layers? Smurfs Lost Village was consistently medium 3D layering. Nothing great, but not as boring as mild 3D thankfully.

I was also thinking of Pacific Rim in 2013, and the sequel in 2018.

As I said I feel this movie had mild 3d that at times felt milder than the 3d in ratchet and clank.By the way I think both movies were converted to 3d instead of being rendered naturally in 3d which is weird for a computer animated movie.

I personally thought lost village's 3D was superior. As for Pacific Rim it's easy to fool the masses with a cheap sequel after you have the original put out by someone like Guillermo. Jaws and Jaws 2 anyone? I do still want to see the sequel though.

I choose to see this movie over pacific rim uprising I'm not sure I made the right decision but I never did finish watch pacific rim 1 so hopefully pacific rim 2 gets a 3d bluray as I believe it should have great 3d like pacific rim 1.

Pacific Rim Uprising cost 150million to make, that is not a cheap sequel.

I love the first one, I laughed out loud a lot. Sad to hear the sequel is not on the same level but hopefully I will still like it. Regardless though it will be a blind buy should this be released on 3D BD and UHD.

When you say this movie, do you mean Smurfs Lost Village in response to my post, or Sherlock Gnomes?
I agree, Ratchet and Clank, most of that film was nearly 2D, one of the weakest conversions I've seen except for some select shots that had stronger 3D in a few instances. When the 3D started in Ratchet and Clank in theaters, I had to flip up my 3D glasses a few times just to see if the 3D was working at all. Thankfully as the film progressed, things got slightly better, but really disappointing and whoever was in charge of the 3D strength of that film, well...

Not to stray off track, but Laika Films, who handle ParaNorman and Boxtrolls, etc., are fans of barely there, mostly mild 3D, as that is what they consistently seem to offer in their animated films so far. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laika_(company)

Thanks.

Pacific Rim 2's 3D was a step down from del Toro's film.

I wasn't the clearest there. I meant it in more of the sense of an inferior product after cashing in on a big directors hit.

With no UK theatrical release in 3D it was obvious we'd never see it here on 3D blu-ray either.

Zoom UK had this up for pre-order a couple of days ago.
Just checked and it is gone. Guess that is a definitive No for UK release.

And yet another 3D theatrical release disappears forever from the home market ie Ferdinand, Trolls......

Even if it's a lousy movie it would be nice to have the option of at least importing from somewhere

Cineworld had this in 3D in the UK for both previews on Bank Holiday weekend and from release till yesterday but they did seem to be the only one.
