Default Top Thinking Man's (i.e. Intelligent) Sci-Fi Films

Click here to check out RottenTomatoes.com's ranking of what they consider to be the all-around best "thinking man's" science-fiction movies of years' past and more recently.

Agree? Disagree?

Side Note: One RT user claims there is a difference between something that is sci-fi and something that is science-fiction... uh, how is that, exactly?

Good list
I would have put Sunshine on the list but other than that, Blade Runner, Dark City, Children of Men and 2001 are all great choices.

Haven't seen Sleeper (not a Woody Allen fan) or Primer but I like the rest of the ones they listed. Except for those 2 and Solaris, they're available on blu-ray also. Like that they're using the blu-ray covers for some of the movies listed.

Yeah, it's too bad Sunshine didn't make the list.

Sleeper is one of my favorite Woody Allen movies if not THE favorite and I'm not a huge fan either. it's quirky and smart

Although certainly not an awful movie I don't personally feel "Sunshine" is ultimately a good film due to a few key factors (with, yes, one of them being the climax) and thus am not surprised that it isn't a contender on the list.

One can certainly do much worse in sci-fi than "Sunshine" though, needless to say.

... Really? Out of every possible past movie of science fiction and your favorite is "Sunshine?" Well, to each his/her own quite obviously.

Great choices.
I am surprised "12 Monkeys" didn't make the list.

Wow. For MANY reasons, I thought it was very very weak.....and not a thinking flick at all. I felt spoon fed the whole time. Odd how we all see things so diferently.

I thought Sunshine had tremendous potential and kinda fell apart 3/4 of the way in, still pretty interesting though.

I feel Rotten Tomatoes is a bit overrated. I think its held in too high regard to some people. The Matrix should def be on there and I know they've got a thing against it and the trilogy for that matter, or so it seems. Also 12 monkeys should be a given.

Well its only one RT reviewers list lol, but I agree that the first Matrix should be on the list.

And now that I think about it.....The Day The Earth Stood Still is missing...therefore the list is moot and poop.

I like Sunshine a lot. I think Callian Murphy is an awesome actor. Sunshine is beautiful on blu.keys should be on there and so should the Matrix, but remember this only a top ten. I am sure 12 Monkeys and The matrix would be on there.

i agree. rottentomatoes is overrated. there are other sci-fi films i'd put on the list before some they mentioned. children of men got a spot but not the matrix. ok. whatever. to each their own i guess.

Children of Men is better than the Matrix. Sorry, that maybe Keanu's best role but he cannot hold a candle to Clive Owen

I agree. I kept hearing great things about Sunshine, and after seeing it, felt it was only slightly above average, at best. I don't regret watching it, but I wouldn't consider it one of the best.

I also agree with the guy a few posts above, wondering why 12 Monkeys didn't make the cut.
