United Kingdom If the player is DVD region free, is it necessarily Blu region free?

I have two Blu players.

My portable one, RCA BRC3073, plays a DVD from region 2 by pressing the menu button, also plays 2d 1080p blus, hdmi outputs 720p, no bitstream audio output.

My consul one, Sony BDPs480, doesn't play the same DVD from region 2, hdmi outputs 1080p, bitstream audio output.

I am considering importing a few Region B blu's. On my RCA I know I would be sacrificing some video & audio but it would be worth it for how few I need to import. Because my RCA is DVD region free is it also blu region free?

According to the manual for your RCA player, it can only play region "A" blu-rays. It also says you can only play region 1 DVDs, so why you can play region 2 DVDs is odd. But that's what the manual says, so that's all I know to go by.

Just because it can play any DVD does not mean it will be be same with BD's.

Blu rays work completely differently to DVDs when it comes to region-free stuff. DVD players can be made region free by a software unlock (There will be plenty of guides out there).

You`ll need a specific region-free blu ray player if you want to play region B discs, as these tend to have a bit of hardware in them that enables you to switch between regions, where a bog standard blu ray player will not. It may be worth checking the forums/product pages of the films/discs you want to import as it may be that they are A capable anyway.
