South Korea Nobody Knows (誰も知らない) [Plain Archive]

Plain Archive have just announced that they will be releasing Hirokazu Koreeda's Nobody Knows as part of the Plain Archive Exclusive collection! No other information is unfortunately known as yet. I guess it's a timely announcement in case anybody was considering picking up the Japanese blu for lack of another edition.

If it’s a blu then this is day one preorder. I love this picture.

Brilliant cover, that.

Will likely buy the Japanese BD, though.

One of the more depressing films I've seen.

Ditto. "Air Doll" wasn't exactly uplifting, either.

Yes, but as with all things Plain Archive, they’ll take their time with it.

It's a good film though? Never understood the mentality that everything needs to be all sunshine and rainbows for people to enjoy movies. Not that I'm judging.. just find it hard to believe that in your massive collection you don't have and enjoy any sad/upsetting/intense movies.

I work in the ED. I get my share of sad/upsetting/intense situations day in and day out. On days off, I like more fantasy than real life.

I'm a big fan of a good, depressing movie.

I recently rewatched this (the new Bandai Visual JP release) and it was not as good as I remembered. I am a huge Kore-eda fan and the majority of his films deal with very somber themes.

At the time in the director's career it was a solid movie. However, watching his growth as a director, it now comes across as depressing with little substance. It's way to cut and dry and matter of fact with little of the wonderful reflective flourish we come to expect from his later films.

I wouldn't really agree, I've seen it a couple of times recently, and it's still an absolute masterpiece.

Anyway, this is finally coming out.

I already own the Bandai Visual JP release and wonder if anyone could share some light on this transfer if any info is available. Great film and yes, depressing especially when the little girl dies.

I'd probably spoiler tag that. What's interesting is that the real life case that inspired Koreeda to make Nobody Knows was even more brutal. So this film, as depressing as it eventually gets, is actually a prettied up version of reality.
