Well since we are talking about an imaginary room, you could add a diffuser.

does the type of wood matter? say a really hard oak floor vs a softer pine?

I happened to have a carpet in my den, I did not have it on purpose for my future flat TV in mind, it was just what I had. I don't have a special cinema room, my TV is in my den period.

If its not lacquered, what changes is the absorbent factor. I have a list for that, I don't know if there are any available on the net.

I voted for carpet. Since I have a carpet, do I still need to treat my room with any of this absorbtive, diffuser or reflective material? Thanks for the advice.

From what I hear carpet is the best becase you want the bass obsorbed so it doesn't create reverberation. The person who metioned the

I'm sure you would get a lot of good info if you googled this.

But as Jackson said to Upham in Saving Private Ryan. Hey, Upham, careful you don't step in the bullsh**.

But seriously from every thing I have heared you want carpet or another surface that absorbs the sound.

Get accoustic panneling if you can if you can it absorbs the sound.

there is a table showing the acoustic absorption of just about any material you care to look for on the net somewhere, i have it printed and on the office wall, it is invaluable! There are also a couple in the reference books that any good acoustician should own.

Carpet FTW, can go bare foot and not freeze your feet off in winter.

yeah carpets always worked for me as wood flooring creates too many top end tones and reverb!! depends on the room size also!

What? no cork in the candidates?...
I was thinking about cork in mine.
AWESOME stuff.

Spongy to walk on, absorbive (not as good as carpet), clean, you can mop it/vaccuum, decent colours, I would've figured you guys were all over this.
Especially if you have allergies or are OCD about keeping your theater rooms clean and dust free. (I hate dust collecting on my electronics and carpet environments are the worst for that).

just my 0.02

P.S. Living room courtesy of Torlys.com
and no its not mine..i just wanted to show you guys cork.

I prefer a dead room, so the more carpeting the better for me.

Having said that, I highly recommend these kats to anybody who wants to get completely sick with it:
