I am curious what you guys do when you receive used items. I don't usually buy used but I just received a large lot of used blu-rays that I ordered and would like to know your process and what products you use. I was planning on removing the discs and all of the artwork from the cases and wiping down all the cases with Clorox wipes. What do you guys use? Thanks for the help!

I never really thought of it. I don't buy many used movies, but I guess I never worried about germs or anything like that.
One thing I do is take a black sharpie and touch up any worn edges on slipcovers, assuming it's black around the edges. ![]() |

I clean the cases with paper towels dampened with Windex. Once completely dry, I return the discs to their cases.
If that is insufficient, I would wash them in lukewarm water with a little dish soap and with an ordinary wash cloth or even just my bare hands. Then, pat them dry with a soft lint free cloth. Return the discs when completely dry. |

Whenever I buy a used blu ray, like at Rasputin's I'll gage the blu ray case and see if its in good condition, if not I buy replacement blu ray cases on eBay for a good price. I always check the disc & sleeve for scratches/rips/tears too, if its not up to par I won't buy it .

^ I decided to keep a supply of two disc capacity replacement cases handy. You never know when you might need to replace a case outright and they are inexpensive, especially in bulk.

I've wiped down cases with clorox wipes or goo gone before. Slipcovers have gotten a goo gone scrub if they have old stickers (library books from fundraising sales too), but that's about it. Can't do much to the art aside from the aforementioned sharpie trick. Colored pencils sometimes work with that too though usually just on art (not slips or books).

Just keep some replacement cases on hand if you buy used. Casetopia is where I get mine. Back in the DVD days I convinced my Tower Records to keep replacement cases in stock and they did. The Rasputin here said it was a good idea to keep blu cases on hand, but they never did.
