Default Movies That Promote Self Sufficiency

Bit of an odd question, I know. But in my family we like to grow our own fruit and veg...do our own DIY etc etc...

Are there any good films out there that promote self sufficiency that you could recommend. Thanks.

The Omega Man is the first thing that pops to my head. I always got a kick out of watching Charlton Heston thriving on his own without giving a f*ck about anything else, even with a weird mutant cult hunting him down. I suppose the other versions of the story (Vincent Price in The Last Man on Earth, or Will Smith in I Am Legend) carry over the same elements, as would other end-of-the-world stories (especially zombie movies).

Thinking more about the survivalist angle, Cast Away emphasize self-sufficiency pretty well too.

Into the Wild is about a young man who goes off to live on his own, unattached to society. Didn't care for the film myself, but folks really love it and it might be more what you're looking for.

There's got to be more--must think about it.

The Martian sort of does, but you know, on Mars, and with science.

I loved the '70s Adventures of the Wilderness Family movies when I was a kid. A family basically gets fed up with life in the city and moves to the mountains, building their own home and learning to live off the land.

I would say Captain Fantastic generally fits that philosophy.
