Default Next of Kin (1982) coming from Umbrella

Huge news, as the Australian masterwork is finally hitting Blu-ray. Fingers crossed for a release the caliber of which this haunting mood piece deserves.

The German DVD wasn't too shabby but yeah, Next of Kin certainly deserves the Blu-ray treatment.

If anything, Quentin Tarantino is a huge fan of the movie.
It's been a fave of mine since VHS rental days.

No doubt! A guy from another forum and I tried tracking down the rights owner a while back. We found him, but he was dealing with a lot of copyright and business issues that he was trying to get worked out at the time. This was over four years ago, so it's sweet to finally see it coming. Williams himself was actually posting on the IMDB message board for the film at one point and described a longer cut. The omitted footage wasn't minor, including
[Show spoiler]the eye stab not being the last we see of the aunt.
I assume it's lost.

That's fantastic! Glad everything got sorted as this is one of the most highly requested 80s titles I've seen in awhile. I have faith Umbrella will do this title justice. This and Razorback were high on my wishlist so I'm excited for these announcements.

I can remember seeing this on VHS in my teens and being so scared I was literally shaking with fear.

I am sure it'd be different watching it as an adult, but it was very scary all those years ago.

Picked this up today and watched it tonight. Blu Ray looks fantastic, especially daytime shots outside. Night scenes can be really dark at points but definitely appeared to be natural. Can’t judge audio very well on my system but was clear and consistent.

What a slow burn that really ramps it up at the end

Any way you can check region compatibility? Since they pulled it from certain US webstores due to Severin's future release, I'm curious if they locked the discs to region B.

The cover art a couple posts back says “Region ABC”. Hopefully it really is. I have it preordered from Amazon (which lists a release date of October 5th) but it says “delivery date pending”. Hmmmm. Wondering if it will actually ship now.

My player can only be set to a single region at a time, and was playing Criterion and Scream Factory discs the previous two nights. Put in Next of Kin without even thinking about it and it played, so it must be all regions

Yeah - still says delivery date pending and now Amazon lists it as “Temporarily out of stock”. Did they ever even have it to begin with?
