Default Dam Itunes just erased half of my Ipod for no reason

I plugged it in and got a sync error. Next thing I know half my ipod got erased. There went 30gigs of music. Apple just ruined my day.

Was it jailbroken? My touch did that once when it was jailbroken and iTunes forced me to update the firmware and I lost all of my library. At least it didn't brick.

How many rules of IT did you just break...

Rule #1: Back Up
Rule #2: Back Up
Rule #3: When in doubt Back Up
Rule #4: Back up your back ups
Rule #5: Back up your back ups of your back ups.
Rule #6: If you neglect one of this rules you will immediate back up
Rule #7: If you fail at every rule you will not seek sympony of the internutz in a attempt to hold onto what is left of your pride.. you will do your best to destroy any evidence of this incident... including burning your clothes and setting fire to anyone who may have come in contact with you directly or indirectly...

Im sorry to hear about what happened best of luck to you as you rebuild your collection again...

You can be first in line to be burned...

Also the OP only said his iPod got erased and not his collection on itunes.

I added rule 7

Oh well it was nice knowing everyone...

I was refering to where he said he sold his entire cd collection which I would think would take some time to rebuild...

That's what it will do when you update the firmware - erase all your stuff on there.
Major flaw, happened to me once, but thankfully I still have all the music on my computer.

I have about 95 percent of it backed up on an external hard drive. I just loaded it back into my itunes library, but now it won't let me put it on my Ipod. What gives?

Just got it working...This is going to take forever. I guess I can go get a bite to eat, and come back in a few hours.

So it erased it from iTunes and not just your iPod? That's definitely strange. Try checking in your "My Music" folder and see if by any chance the iTunes folder is still in there, along with all your songs.

This is why i buy the CDs... if something happens I still have the hard copy and get all the artwork, lyrics, posters and extras if any.

Never trust your music collection on a computer/ipod... yikes!

I had all the cd's but sold most of them this summer. My Ipod is 3 years old and has worked perfectly since the day I got it until today. I figured I didn't need the cd's anymore cause they had a ton of dust on them and I just use my ipod.

All is good. Theres about 15 gigs of music missing. I think a lot of it was live music I didn't listen to and I do have all that on cd's from back before I had an Ipod. Doubt I'll put it back on. Gives me more room for my 50's collection.

That is why when you buy music from iTunes, you burn a back up copy ( hard copy) right away.
