Default Samsung's New Bluray Player

Samsung's New Bluray Player

Quote:
No one wants an ugly Blu-ray box sitting in his or her home theater, but the look of the machine is secondary to its function--at least we'd like to think so--particularly since it's not something you'd be looking at very often. But that's not going to stop Samsung from making a sexy looking Blu-ray Disc player.

Samsung revealed at CES the BD-3600 standalone Blu-ray Disc player, which takes fashion very seriously. The BD-3600 looks nothing like the usual "DVD player look" of most machines today, but instead looks, well, like a shiny black wedge. The edges are accented with a tinge of red color, which matches it well with the rest of Samsung's "Touch of Color" LCD TVs. It also features touch sensitive controls, which should help speed up the tarnishing of the player's glossy finish.

The BD-3600 isn't light on features though. It includes the now-mandatory BD-Live Profile 2.0 and goes a step further by supporting streaming of content from both Netflix and Pandora. It can also do so wirelessly with the included Wi-Fi dongle that plugs into one of the player's two USB ports.

Could this be the start of fashion-oriented Blu-ray Disc players? We're not sure, but as long as it doesn't affect function, we're never one to turn away a prettier form. Look for this sometime in 1H 2009.

Eh....I think I like the conventional shapes better (maybe I'm just getting old ). The touch of color is nice, but color isn't a consideration when purchasing a blu ray player (or any other item...although come to think of it all of my video hardware is black save for the DVD player and receiver...those are brushed aluminum). I would like to see this player from more angles, as the design is interesting and creative. Wonder if Samsung hired some old I-Mac designers?

doesnt matter to me what the machine looks like as long as it functions properly. Besides, other than pictures, i am only the one that sees mine in person. everyone else just gets the effect which goes back to the first sentence of my post. imo, i would rather see technology and functionality in place as opposed to looks. now if you get both in one package without paying a higher price just for color and shape, NP! but something tells me that companies would market the look first with yesterdays technology and then jack up the price. aka.... cosmetic marketing and appeal!

it is perhaps because the red reminds you of your avatar?

kinda cool but a no sale for me...
im kinda old school as well id like my audio video equipment to look like audio video equipment. heck if i could do it id get a home theater pc case and see if i could mod it to install the guts and working end of my ps3 into it. (can you tell im not a ps3 case fan lol)
given my bdp 1500s performance and samsungs tech support forget it... i do like my 22 inch samsung computer monitor but poor tech support on the 1500 will prevent me from buying anything with samsungs name on it again.

to me that unit just screams Bose

Who really wants a slot-loading Blu-ray player anyways........It will probably die after a year or two like all of Samsungs other products.

And supported by the manufacturer, which Samsung has been known to be lacking in that area. I believe Samsung makes decent products but their customer service/support needs to improve.
