Default need suggestions for blu-ray shelving

I need a roughly 3' wide, 6' high blu-ray shelf(book case/shelf style). I've roughly 300 blu's now, but obviously I need room to expand. Also, every shelf has to be high enough to hold a steel book(7.5"). I've searched and looked to no avail. I found a custom guy who quoted me roughly $1,000. Any suggestions welcome...

This is what I use. I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but I love that there's lots of storage that doesn't take up a huge amount of floor space.

The shelves are totally adjustable. They'll fit Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs. All you have to do is put them together and they're simple.

i built one myself, using 2 by 4s and 1 by strips. pics can be seen in my gallery.

edit: i think i spent roughly 100 dollars to put mine together. each 1 by strip is about 8.5 -9 inches from the previous one, in order to make room for cases.

So I've been doing research on this for over a year.

The best solution I have found, but have yet to implement, is the Billy bookcase from Ikea.

They are cheaper than making it yourself and can be made to fit the maximum amount of Blu-rays/SteelBooks per bookcase by my calculations.

Pretty certain the two I have in my room are the black billy https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40263848/
I know I got them from Ikea. They're a pain in the butt to build for an idiot like me, but they work wonders.
I layer mine since my collection is large (was larger, I've cut out a couple hundred sets), I stand them in the back and lay them on their sides in the front so it's easy to pull the front layer backa bit to see the tiles in the back. Also great for big sets like my Watchmen/Dark Knight Trilogy and Ten Commandments sets.

Thanks for the tips, guys. The problem w/ the Ikea unit is that is has the dreaded fixed shelf...limiting how I space the other shelves. Since I list my blu's alphabetically, each shelf has to be 8" high to fit a steel case/book w/ a little room at the top so you can use your finger to pull it out. Obviously as my collection grows(roughly 300+ now), those steel cases will eventually move to different shelves in the alphabetized order. So far, the only solution is a custom job(roughly $1,000 for 3'x6'). Depressing...

If they have to be shelves instead of the rotating cabinet that I suggested, I'm sure you could go out and purchase a book case that you put together yourself and customize it to suit your needs for a fraction of the price.

I recently made floating shelves using 1x3.5" pine.

Yes, I know about the fixed shelf in the middle. However, it accommodates blu-ray height shelving if you don't account for the index finger.

In fact, from what I recall it is almost perfect for blus and DVDs.

I bought two of these many years ago Probably around 5. Needed another one now and Amazon was the cheapest. Hope the quality is still good.

I bought two of these last August. They arrived in perfect shape. Just what I needed for BDs, DVDs, CDs.

Can each shelf hold a steel case though(7.25" high)? I can live w/o the gap at the top, but not having a shelf too short for steel cases.

Sorry, I'm Canadian. I don't know what an inch is.

If you're talking about a SteelBook, they are the same height as blu-ray cases and when I did my measurements sometime last Fall, the Billy bookshelf fits them perfectly even with the fixed middle shelf.

You will need to buy additional shelves because the Billy bookcase can be completely filled with Blu-rays and/or DVD height shelves.

Right now it is $55.00 CDN ($42.00 US) for one shelf that I believe when maxxed out can hold 600 Blu-rays.

Thanks, i wound up going w/ this(Billy was too deep for my space): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...=A2Y7LLQC87RDQ
It matches the two bookcases on each side of my 75" P series Vizio(except those are real wood). It's really cheap construction, so if it doesn't work out, I'll go w/ this one instead:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...A3SQ9YFE6CSCS0
The steelbooks are are roughly a half inch taller than the standard case, btw.

You own your house? I did this, it was easy. And I bought all the lumber I needed from Home Depot for around $30.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H7ACX0wBzis

Figure it can hold around 1200 blu rays.

one endorsement of Jay's method:

I think this is the absolute best budget option for a large media collection I have ever seen, and there's no reason one couldn't use hardwood and stain it all. I would recommend a countersink for the screw holes to prevent any splitting and I could see where some nice stainless steel screws and black analine dye could create a really stylish yet still very budget media rack.

Thanks, I actually did watch both videos. Nice work! I just didn't have time(not even to pay someone to do it). I needed something ASAP. The Atlantic case I bought fits perfectly, albeit the cheapest piece of junk ever. It was only like $120(for obvious reasons lol). When I finished assembling it, a stiff breeze would've folded it like an accordion. I used a TON of Gorilla glue, and now it's actually pretty sturdy(relatively speaking).

Oh that wasn’t me in the video lol, I found that video when I was in the same predicament as you.
