Default Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch MonitorSeries PoweredSub

On black Friday I bought my surround sound system from Amazon. I ordered (2) Polk Audio Monitor70 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker and a Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch MonitorSeries PoweredSub. The price qualified me for a FREE!! PSW10 so I had 2 on this order! Shortly after I decided to ditch my Bose acoustimass 10 and ordered my satellites the RM95 set which completed my 7.1 sound system. This purchase also qualified me for a free PSW10.

So I have 3 PSW10. Is it possible to hook all 3 up? Will it make a difference or is it just a waste of time and money?

Suggestion anyone?

I know they arent the BEST.. But I live in an apartment so one of these is overkill. By overkill Imean enough to piss the neighbors off

But I was watching the Digital Video Essentials BluRay last night and they showed the possibility of 4-6 subs... I figured why not hook up my 3.

your probably gonna need three of these subs in order to get the sound you want, lol. Seriously though, i own one of these subs and im not too happy with it, i was actually thinking of buying another one since they are so inexpensive to see if that sounds any better.
So, two sounds good, three seems like overkill, so you may as well give me your third

LOL Like I said I know its far from the best... but my whole speaker set up cost me like just over $1000 for
(2) Polk Audio Monitor70
Polk Audio RM95 5-Channel Home Theater System
AND (3) Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch MonitorSeries PoweredSub

(cables not included)

That's not counting Gift certificates I had

I figured 2 or 3 of the lesser quality subs would sound just as good as 1 more powerful higher end sub. I also thought it might sound better since a weaker bass would come from multiple angles vs 1 heavy pounding bad Larry coming from 1 corner. I could also save a few bucks!

2 sounds great but I was curious how 3 would sound. Neighbors aren't always home ya know lol

This is my 1st time building a system. I knew I wanted satellites for the surrounds. I knew I wanted 7.1. I also knew I wanted tweeters, bass, and mids for my fronts. So I'm still learning

the two front sub's are on the YAMAHA's .2 sub outputs and the back sub's are on the surround sound speaker cables. so the sound comes from the receiver's surround sound outputs and in to the sub's and out to the surround speakers. works good for me. but some times can get a little bit loud

Yes I hooked the 2nd one up last night. Both are below the 50% volume. But it sounds more even. IDK how to explain it. It guess I can't pin point where the bass is coming from with 2 vs 1.

No it fills the room w/2 vs knowing where the bass is localized. I like 2 =)

1 can shake the walls on max! lol

If you can get one more for a quad subwoofer setup, that would be ideal. One in each corner of the room that is. Use the third sub elsewhere or sell it if you want if you don't want to do that.

this is good to here, one of the things that erks me about this sub is that sometimes i can tell were the bass is coming from. i gotta jump on buying another one of these subs.

I have a question. Is it better to get a Y split cable or use the single sub-woofer cable to plug in to either the L or R?

From what I've gathered so far, and someone correct me if I'm wrong please, it sounds like if you use a Y-splitter and connect to the L and R filtered inputs, then you'll be "using" the crossover setting on your sub. If you use just the one RCA input (unfiltered), then it circumvents the crossover setting and you'll have to set your crossover via your receiver.

I also read from a Polk engineer (Kenneth Swauger) that the sound quality is not changed between inputs, however it will allow the sub to play louder.

EDIT: Oh ya, but the PSW10 doesn't have "filtered" and "unfiltered" inputs so the crossover setting stuff I was talking about doesn't apply. The part about the sub playing louder (no change in quality) is true though.
