Hopefully this will get a great transfer and will be followed by Hannibal (average film but Florence *should* look beautiful in Blu) and the excellent Red Dragon, which looked delicious on hd-dvd.

This sounds like it will be worth checking it out, excellent movie, Jodie Foster's face was flawless back then so she should look great in Hi-def!

In my top three of horror movies. Great to see Blu-ray getting this fantastic movie.

Looking forward to this one. I have the Criterion version on DVD. Great extras, but the transfer's not even anamorphic. I held off on buying the special edition DVD, so the blu-ray is a must for me. Honestly, I'd buy all 5 Hannibal Lecter films on blu-ray (yes, even Hannibal Rising

).

How was Manhunter compared to Red Dragon, since they're basically the same movie. I haven't seen Manhunter.

Manhunter is a great 80's style thriller. If you enjoy those type of films from that time period, then I'm sure you'd like Manhunter. It's a lot grittier than Red Dragon, though it also takes more liberties with the original novel. I'd personally recommend Manhunter, but it might not be for everybody.

I like both Manhunter, red dragon, and Silence. Silence and Dragon are more dramatically "hollywood". I saw Silence on some HD channel a few weeks ago and it looked pretty good. lots of tight close ups for blu ray to expose.

can't wait to set this one on blu

All of Jonathan Demme's movies are like that, showing the characters talking right into the camera as if from the POV of the person they're talking to.
