![]() ![]() "Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio are in early discussions to re-team on an epic biopic of Ulysses S. Grant that DiCaprio and Appian Way partner Jeniffer Davisson are producing at Lionsgate. I’m told that Spielberg wants to direct DiCaprio in that role in their first collaboration since the 2002 drama Catch Me If You Can. Lionsgate and Appian Way last November acquired movie rights to Grant, the bestselling Ron Chernow biography that is being adapted by David James Kelly. The writer just worked for Appian Way and Lionsgate on Robin Hood, the Otto Bathurst-directed that stars Taron Egerton in the starring role." SOURCE ![]() |

Great subject and director choice buuuuuuuuuut not so sure on DiCaprio playing him. In all honesty, I have no idea who would play someone as important as he was.
Still, I'm game. I remember in my school days I did a project on him when I was young and had a blast doing it. |

Bryan Cranston = Perfect casting as Ulysses S. Grant later in life when he became president.
I see no reason why DiCaprio can't pull it off though tbh! |

I'm all over this. Lincoln is one of my favorite Spielberg films that I think gets lost in the shuffle of his real standouts. I feel like he, and DiCaprio, can pull off something similar here.

As a Civil War buff and Spielberg fan, this is certainly right up my alley but I'll remain cautiously optimistic; the amount of Spielberg projects announced that never come to fruition (to say nothing of DiCaprio projects) is keeping me skeptical.
Gotta say, though, that the thought of large-scale recreations of Civil War battles and campaigns with what Spielberg brought to Saving Private Ryan has me really wanting to see this get made...since we only got a teasing glimpse of what could have been at the beginning of Lincoln. |

I'm definitely on board for this.
And to the people doubting if this will happen, the article says this (after talking about how busy both Spielberg and DiCaprio are): Quote:

I don't know about the choices for this. Leo, yeah maybe for the early parts of his life, but how much will cover the war? Will he be sympathetic for Grant's dying years?
And Spielberg, I haven't had much desire to see his recent films. The marketing seems to be lacking. Is he going to handle this the same way? |

Is it just me or does Spielberg often look vaguely smug when he smiles? I think the way he sometimes raises one eyebrow a little higher than the other, like in the above picture, is what does it.
