Do you have certain genres of movies and/or TV shows that you stay away from???
Are there exceptions (a movie or TV show that was good despite you not liking the genre)??? My personal example: I don't like Westerns. I have never really liked Westerns. For the most part, they have all seemed very cookie-cutter to me. My exceptions are the movie Unforgiven and the TV show -The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (Although, this may be because I like Bruce Campbell). What about anyone else. Do you dislike Western? Sci-fi? Action? Drama? Romance? Anime? Comedy? Buddy Flicks? Sports Movies? (If I get enough responses, I'll put up a poll in another day or two.) |

I stay away from films that: have dane cook in it, Jessica Alba, Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Adam Sandler (with the exception of Reign Over Me and Punch Drunk Love), Jim Carrey (with the exception of: Eternal Sunshine, Truman Show, Man On the Moon), david spade...and anything made by the people that brought me Scary Movie.

I dislike the new comedy spoof genre, I grew tired of it during the Scary Movie sequels. Can't stand Meet the Spartans, Date Movie, Disaster Movie, Superhero Movie, etc. I love the old spoofs, Blazing Saddles, Airplane, Young Frankenstein, Top Secret - but these new ones are so hard for me to sit through. Not funny!

I don't have any to the point where I'll just flat out say I won't give that film/show a chance because it's scifi/western/Martial Arts ect.
That being said I'm not a huge martial arts, action or western fan, but there are definitely exceptions & great movies in those genres. |

to OP: I tend to avoid anything that looks shitty in a preview or by what I've read about it, not by genre....I would consider that retarded. |

Honestly, besides utterly stupid movies like Disaster Movie and those other spoof flicks, I don't stay away from any genre. I'm completely open. One of the reasons I love watching movies is because they take you to different places. Want to go from a ninteenth century tavern in the black hills of South Dakota to Ancient Rome? Just take out 'Deadwood' and pop in 'Rome'. Or take out 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' and pop in 'Gladiator'.

I also used to avoid all Anime (and to some extent still do).
My early exposure to Anime was: 1. comedies with the misshapen Anime heads, and annoying voices. 2. Over actionized flashy shows ---- Dragonball Z and Shows with Mechs. ----None of which I was too fond of. The movie that changed it for me was Samurai X:Trust and Betrayal, which actually had drama, action, and a plot. I showed it to my sister a little while ago (who also is not into anime), and she also liked it alot. Since then I have been able to enjoy: Rurouni Kenshin Seasons 1&2 Akira I still can't get into what they show on Adult swim or stuff like Cowboy Bebop or Dragonball. (I do like a great deal of non-Anime, animated shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama.) Last edited by arrow61095; 01-15-2009 at 07:17 PM. |

I'm not a dragon ballz/cowboy bebop fan either but I adore Akira and Spirited Away and paprika leans more towards this type of anime. The first Ghost in the Shell is good too |
