Question A/V Cooling????

Has anyone used those really thin laptop cooler pads to cool there A/V equipment? Usually they use USB to power.....i was thinking what if u had a AC to usb connection like the i phone charger? might be a nice cheap way to cool equipment? anyone heard of this? thanks!

it just might work. I used recycled phone charger to make cooling fans with PC fans. it works wonders.

I have a Targus that I used for my Cable box. I feel it has really worked. In my old setup without it, I seemed to be going through boxes every 6 months due to a hard drive failure. Since I got this one, I have been going strong over a year now without a hint of trouble.

Mine is a little loud at low volumes, but I usually don't listen at low volumes. Besides, my gas fireplace fan is MUCH louder than the little Targus fan, so it drowns everything out.

While they are more efficient and don't require you to replace the logs, a wood burning "stove"/fireplace with a nice blower looks a lot cooler.

I dunno, there's just something about those glowing embers that makes me want to put two in our soon to be - Wisconsin home, instead of gas.

The only thing is does it stay turned on with the a/v stuff off? how does it come on & shut off? thanks!!!

Try coolerguys.com. They have a couple of options for A/V cooling. I have the twin 80mm fan kit personally, and it works well.

I have a dual fan setup in my media cabinet, and it does a great job. It is thermostatically controlled and has 2 120mm DC fans that come on when the ambient temp. reaches 85 deg. F.

This is the kit that I have:
http://www.coolerguys.com/840556082224.html

Very easy to install since it comes with a mounting plate. I have a infrared temp. gun that I used to take some before and after measurements with. Temps. at the top of my receiver were over 100 deg. F before the fan install, after they rarely get above 91 deg. F.

Here is a picture of them in my cabinet:

The other fan is on the opposite side of that center divider.

It depends on whether the USB port you use is powered all the time or only when the A/V device is on. My cable box port is powered all the time, so I just use the power button on the fan unit.
