Default Help with lossless audio set-up!!!!

I have a Panasonic DMP-BD30 hooked up to my Panasonic TH-42PZ80U television using a HDMI cable. I then have the BD30 hooked up to my older Yamaha HTR 5650 reciever with an optical cable. I have a JBL 6.1 HTIB for my speaker setup. I am new to this whole thing, so this seemed like my best setup with the older reciever that I have. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for a more accurate sound/picture transfer. I know buying a new reciever would be easy, but convincing my wife to spend $500 +/- for a new reciever when our current one still works is not.

Pull the fuse on the unit so it no longer works and convince the wife you need a new one.

Then put the fuse back in and sell it to help offset the cost of a new receiver.

well i would suggest that using the 5.1 analog out but judging by the specs i saw it doesnt decode true hd or dts ma, only bitstreams them. can you convice her to spend less than 500? you can get a onkyo 605 or 606 for under 400

personally, i wouldnt go with the fuse suggestion, makes me feel uncomfortable to lie to my wife just to get what id want. but then again, its a matter of personal opinion.

you can use the multichannel analog outs and connect it to your current reciever, and still get a fairly good sonic quality comparing this to a dvd.

you can find more information via here...

The DMP-BD30 has 5.1 analog outs, but it does not decode TrueHD or dts-ma, so the only lossless audio you're going to get that way is PCM multi-channel tracks.

At least 250 blu's have PCM audio.

http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/Stats.php

(use the filter provided and select PCM to see available titles.

Try a few with the analogue outs on your receiver and see what you think. If it blows you AND your wife away.. it may be pretty simple to get permission for a new one that will allow you to get all of the lossless formats.

Yes but if you narrow them down to the last 6 months you'll find that hardly any new releases are coming out that way.

With the lossless codecs, what's the point of LPCM now? Use the space saved for special features.

Licensing costs. That's the point with LPCM. The studio has to pay royalties to Dolby or DTS when they use those codecs. It uses more space but LPCM is free. Correct?
