Geostorm

Not a big pop-out fest but there were some okay ones and the 3d overall was pretty good. I noticed around the 56 min mark, the character Dana incorrectly corrects someone's grammar.

I will continually update my first post to reflect what order I rate the movies as far as pop-outs are concerned. The emboldened titles will have links to the posts that enumerate them.

There were some I didn't count because they crossed the edge of the screen too much to truly appreciate. If I would have counted all these "bulges", there may have been over 100. This is certainly the one to beat!

Pop out distance is variable. The closest to-my-face 3D display experience was from a Blu-ray 3D Jaws 3-D title credit.

The red boarder came out of the display to the point where the black lettering "Jaws 3-D" traveled 9ft; past my feet on an ottoman, half way up my stretched legs.

What kind of hardware you using? TV or projector? Also, what kind of 3d player you using? I either use my 3d PS3, Sony 3d player or my LG region free 3d player. I do remember Jaws 3d was very good 3d, especially when the fish head comes out of the screen. Any suggestions? Please and thanks.

I mean anything that appears to be in the space between me and the screen. I've not experienced anything just inches from my face either. I don't think my eyes would be capable of fusing the two images to make that possible. There were some instances in Jaws 3 and Comin' at Ya where I just saw two images though they were clearly meant to be close to me.

I had such high hopes for Comin' At Ya but the ghosting is so bad I gave up on watching it. It is disappointing some people have all these great 3d effects and it appears I am not one of them. My glasses are active, my TV is awesome, or so I thought. Are some tv's better at t3d than thers?

They must be; my projector is certainly better than my TV. For example, in Jaws 3, just before the title (the pic Paul posted above) there is a fish head that comes floating out of the screen. On my TV, the image came about half-way across the room but on my projector, it was closer to 7/8ths with the fish head even with my knees. I picked that specifically because it matched Paul's experience with the title but I couldn't fuse the title on either of my displays. It appeared as two images to me.

Default Jaws 3

Although this one had a ton of pop-outs, many of which were very strong, I don't rate it as highly as others because of the poor quality. Too many times the left image had a shadow on a portion which drove me nuts. Still, this one has the strongest pop-outs so far, many that zoomed in to the point where the images split (for me, anyway)

I will continually update my first post to reflect what order I rate the movies as far as pop-outs are concerned. The emboldened titles will have links to the posts that enumerate them.

It all depends how close you are sitting from your TV or projector. I sit about 12 feet from my 55 inch 3DTV. To get the same 3d effect as I get from my projector, I would have to sit about 6 feet from the TV - about 1.3 times 55. For my projected 138 inch wide image, I sit about 15 feet from it - 1.3 times 138.

Active tends to have more ghosting than passive in general. I tried a Panasonic plasma active set years ago and the ghosting was terrible. The Samsung active LCD was much better. I've heard a lot of complaints with Sony active sets. A later Samsung active set had more ghosting than one I had tried a couple years earlier. The passive LG LCD I own now has the least ghosting, as long as you sit in the proper "zone" of course.

Default Amazing Spider-man (Garfield)

Lot's of pop-outs of Spider-man, probably many more than I counted. As the movie progressed they came fast and furious although seldom really strong. However, considering this was in scope, the framing of most of the shots was excellent, making this a pleasure to watch.

Default The Amazing Spider-man II

With 52 pop-outs, why isn't this one of the pop-out kings you might ask? Most of the po's in this film are mild and come in quick succession not allowing much time to appreciate.

Many more pop-outs than the first Spider-man though maybe not quite as strong. Like the first, the most pop-outs come in the heat of battle and happen rapidly. Although I liked more of the pop-outs in the first one, I'm going to rank this above for the stronger 3d overall which makes the pop-outs work better. That and the number is far greater. On the other hand, this loses points for the "blue-man group" treatment of Electro and the mechanization of the Rhino. On the other hand, it gets points for the
[Show spoiler]death of Gwen Stacy
. We'll see.

I will continually update my first post to reflect what order I rate the movies as far as pop-outs are concerned. The emboldened titles will have links to the posts that enumerate them.

Default Beowulf

Stuffed with pop-outs of all sorts. Crispin Glover never looked so good. Angelina Jolie never looked so good and Ray Winstone absolutely never looked so good. 3d is fairly strong through-out and if there is any complaint, many of the backgrounds and background figures lack individual volume. Cardboard cut-outs comes to mind as a term used here often.

Watch this on as big a screen as you can find. Many of the camera angles are at ground level so if you can minimize the amount of peripheral edges, you may feel like you are in the same room sometimes standing just behind another person. I didn't list those times as pop-outs so consider that a bonus which as of this writing, puts this movie at the top of my list for pop-outs. Another bonus is that it is actually a good movie!

I will continually update my first post to reflect what order I rate the movies as far as pop-outs are concerned. The emboldened titles will have links to the posts that enumerate them.

For my projected 138 inch wide image, I sit about 15 feet from it - 1.3 times 138.
Are you sure you projected image is 138" WIDE? Or is that the DIAGONAL measurement? If you were, in fact, referring to WIDTH, then you need to correct your arithmetic....a 55" 16x9 tv is actually ~46.6" wide. If you multiply that by 1.3, you get ~60", or ~5 feet.

138 inches wide. 55" 16 by 9 is 47.9" wide. So, your right, about 5 feet.

Default Comin' at Ya!

Do not adjust your television set! This gets nasty. If you just want pop-outs, this is your film (so far), but be prepared for some eyestrain. I'm sure that not even an OLED can fix the problems with this entry but it is not all a tale of woe. For every extreme pop-out that doesn't quite work, whether it goes too far or has some alignment issue or color mismatch, there is one or more strong pop-out that does.

The story is very weak but digestible and the acting is bad; maybe not "A*P*E" bad, or is it? There is some dubious use of black and white mixed with color that doesn't add anything in my book, but the 3d is anything but weak. Everything but the kitchen sink is thrown or dropped towards the camera. It even has depth! If you can find it for less than 10 dollars, then I say buy it.

Default Fright Night

One of my favorites doesn't have a lot, but what it does have are well done . Plus it has one of my favorite pop-outs, "Jerry catches an arrow", perfectly framed and is shot just to the right side of the viewers head but then slowly pans more to center. It is also one of the better remakes I've seen of a movie that didn't need one.

I will continually update my first post to reflect what order I rate the movies as far as pop-outs are concerned. The emboldened titles will have links to the posts that enumerate them.

Default It Came From Outer Space

This flick is a perfect example for showing the difference between a projector and TV, assuming the projector screen is very large. So many large items, people, objects, which are cut off by the edge of the screen make it very hard to view as pop-outs on a TV, but with a very large screen you can focus on a part of an object and realize that it comes out of the screen pretty pronounced. Our hero John Putnam, for instance, stands in our theatre room on a few occasions, an effect that is destroyed by a small screen where the framing is so obvious (and my small screen is 60in.) A classic that should be in everyone's collection

This film makes it into my upper tier for pop-outs for how well done they are. And there are several!
