Default Can you get strep throat from the gym?

Heyo folks! So I generally don't like to talk about anything non-home-theater-related on here for anonymity's sake but I wanted to ask about something and this is one of the only forums I'm really on and didn't wanna start up a new account on another one.

So, I have strep throat, yay. I already got medicine for it and am feeling better. Last year I got strep throat also, and it was my first time getting it. It's also worth noting that last year was when a Planet Fitness opened up a few blocks from me and I joined it. And, I have noticed that in both instances of strep, I really began to notice symptoms after a session at said gym, and also that said gym can be pretty crowded and, on occasion, smell pretty god awful, and I did also once get a pretty gross bump on my elbow that, when I read up on, turned out to be a (thankfully harmless and passing) surface-level skin thing caused by a bacteria that commonly builds up in gyms.

So, I was wondering, is it possible that the gym is where I've been picking up strep throat? And if so, is there any way I can avoid this?

It can be caused by bacteria or passed through a virus. All you can do is avoid people who may have symptoms and make sure you're using clean equipment.

But at the end of the day you might have picked it up outside the gym and the exercise has just exacerbated the condition.
