New cover by Eric Skillman
Quote:
John Waters made bad taste perversely transcendent with the forever shocking counterculture sensation Pink Flamingos, his most infamous and daring cinematic transgression. Outré diva Divine is iconic as the wanted criminal hiding out with her family of degenerates in a trailer outside Baltimore while reveling in her tabloid notoriety as the “Filthiest Person Alive.” When a pair of sociopaths (Mink Stole and David Lochary) with a habit of kidnapping women in order to impregnate them attempt to challenge her title, Divine resolves to show them and the world the true meaning of the word filthy. Incest, cannibalism, shrimping, and film history’s most legendary gross-out ending—Waters and his merry band of Dreamlanders leave no taboo unsmashed in this gleefully subversive ode to outsiderhood, in which camp spectacle and pitch-black satire are wielded in an all-out assault on respectability.

They keep showing them. Female Trouble just came out and Criterion’s doing Polyester next year. Warner Brothers called me yesterday. They’re doing Pink Flamingos again. And who would’ve ever thought that Warner Brothers would distribute Pink Flamingos?

Why can’t it be Criterion?

But I will pick this up either way. Been dying to see this.

If it's a WAC release then you're getting a bang for your buck with quality for the main feature.

This one does seem like a Criterion title.

Wow, I am surprised it isn't going through Criterion. Given WAC's track record, I'm still down for it though.

I feel like after a few years, some of the WAC titles will become available to Criterion. This, The Boy Friend, The Bogey titles, etc. stand out.

Unless they got 4K rescans (Except for the titles that actually did get 4K scans such as Night Moves) I see no point of sub-licensing to boutiques such as Criterion; the few WAC titles I own are some of the best looking Blus in my collection.

I just hope the quality is the best it can possibly be and all previous features are included. I wouldn’t mind some new ones, but does Warner usually do new ones?

I’m still hoping for Waters to release his old short films as special features. Whether he hates them or not I know his fans would love to have them.

If it's WAC (Which I have a very strong feeling it will be) then they do at least new 2K IP scans or if that IP is unsuitable they do 4K scans of the next best thing (OCN or in Sea Wolf's case of a combination of a then newly discovered 35mm print of the original version). WAC will generally port all prior bonus features, very rarely do they do new extras. The only exception, to my knowledge, was for "Michael Collins" with a new commentary and interview from director Neil Jordan.

Wow. Seeing this once was enough at the art house in Pasadena.
But not buying it.

As long as it's WAC I'm down. Weird this one ain't going to Criterion even though they've already had it once before.

You could argue for or against listing "Superman" as well, but either way it would still be a short list. They didn't even add the cut Bob Odenkirk scene to the deleted scenes on "Waiting for Guffman", and he's a big star now, so it seems like if they were gonna do anything, they'd do that.

WB's release of Hairspray (1988) had tons of extras not on their DVD (mostly taken from New Line's John Waters box set), so they might put a similar effort into this. Glad it's finally coming out.
