Default The Bravados (1958), starring Gregory Peck - 9/18/18

The Bravados (1958) will arrive on Blu-ray on September 18, 2018, from Twilight Time. This will be a limited edition of 3000 copies. Lots of familiar stars in this one.

Quote:
From IMDb.....Jim Douglas has been relentlessly pursuing the four outlaws who murdered his wife, but finds them in jail about to be hanged. While he waits to witness their execution, they escape; and the townspeople enlist Douglas' aid to recapture them.
Directed by Henry King (The Song of Bernadette, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Twelve O'Clock High, Captain from Castile, The Gunfighter, The Snows of Kilimanjaro)

Starring:

Gregory Peck (To Kill a Mockingbird, Moby Dick, The Guns of Navaronne, MacKenna's Gold, The Big Country, Roman Holiday, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, Pork Chop Hill)

Joan Collins (Island in the Sun, Land of the Pharoahs, Dynasty TV series)

Stephen Boyd (Ben-Hur, Fantastic Voyage, Genghis Khan, Shalako, Hannie Caulder)

Henry Silva (The Manchurian Candidate, Cry of a Prostitute, Almost Human, Code of Silence, Above the Law)

Lee Van Cleef (The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Escape from New York, The Big Gundown, The Big Combo, Take a Hard Ride, Sabata)

Albert Salmi (Empire of the Ants, Moonshine County Express, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Hour of the Gun, Wild River, Lawman, and lots of 1960s to 1980s television)

Music by Lionel Newman, Hugo Friedhofer, and Alfred Newman

Cinematography by one of the true legends.....Leon Shamroy. Just a small sampling of his work includes Cleopatra, Leave Her to Heaven, Planet of the Apes, The Egyptian, Forever Amber, South Pacific, The King and I, and King of the Khyber Rifles).

We showed our old DVD as part of our Lee Van Cleef fest recently and hoped for a coming upgrade. Had forgotten how good this is and the jump should be significant. One of Peck’s better, lesser known performances of its day and a nice early role for Henry Silva.

Don't hesitate. Buy It Now.

Outstanding transfer. Sharp and textured. Deep blacks, rich color, proper grading.

Some reviewers complained of "Cinemascope mumps" brought out by the digitization,
but that's the process and character of Cinemascope and not a flaw in the transfer.

The Bravados is a peerless western.

Interesting film. I have a tendency to forget how many notable Westerns Gregory Peck was in.
