I need a 4k player to go with my 4k TV. I have a few things in mind I'd like to help narrow it down some, if they are feasible.
It will remember where I left off if I turn off the system. My ps3 now if I turn it off will pick right back up where I left in the movie when I come back to it later. Really helpful if I am watching a series or TV show. Not filled with a ton of apps to navigate. If I put a movie in I want to easily just watch the movie. I also find the players turn on and navigate slow from lots of apps. Has dvd upconversion since I still have a decent amount of DVDs I watch. Supports hdr10. Thanks for any advice |

in Blu-Rays I believe this is a function of the disc, not the player. That only works with DVD's via the actual player. It's annoying.

Firstly, I highly recommend the Sony X-800. An outstanding player - a solid, and well built machine with an excellent performance. As for remembering where you left off, I'd agree with 'SixSpeedSamurai'. I have discs where once you press the stop button, even if the disc is left in the machine, it will jump back to the main menu. I have other discs where once you resume play, a message comes up asking if you wish to continue or start again, and some other discs where it will just continue automatically without even prompting you. |

resume has little to do with the player, it depends on the disc.

So I got votes for Sony x700 and x800. I'll look up and compare them. Thanks.
Curious though, how do DVDs look on them? Is upscaling on say my ps3 make them look as good as on a x700? Or does x700 actually make them look better? Thanks. |

For a TV I suggest an HDR set, as one with Dolby Vision are twice as much. As for the DVD upscaling I haven't played a DVD in at least a year. But today for some reason I was thinking about the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, so I'll give the DVD a go tonight. |

If you don’t care about Dolby Vision, then get the x800... It’s a well made player and I loved the design and build. But I care about Dolby Vision and sold it and got the x700... Picture and audio quality was exactly the same and Dolby Vision movies got a great boost in picture quality for the most part. The x700 is cheaply made on the build but that’s just nitpicking.
Right now, Best Buy has the x700 on sale for $179.99 |

I can vouch for the Dolby Vision on teh Sony X700 paired with the TCL 55" 6-Series. I upgraded the Sony's firmware today, and got DV...my Mission: Impossible 2 showed yesterday, which was my first UHD disc with DV. So, guess what I did? Looks AMAZING. That combo will be about $800 out the door.
