I'll usually import it, unless its being released within a few months. Steelbooks are a must though.

I wait, unless it's a movie I love and would pay full price and then some to have. Otherwise I can wait.

I just bought Thirteen Ghosts and it's my first import. It looks super great, so I would buy an import again if the price is low and I really want it.

Import unless I know it will be out in the next few months.

Depends on the likelyhood the movie will be out here in the states any time soon. For example Hannibal will probably be out here in the US relatively soon after Silence of the Lambs, whereas In Bruges could be a long time coming seing as it's a foreign indie film. Also it depends on the release. I would have imported Children of Men a long time ago if it had lossless audio.

The only imports I've done have been some of the Alliance stuff from Canada, and been pretty happy about it. You bring up a good one with In Bruges though, I have been DYING to get a Blu release there.

As long as the price is reasonable, I have no problem importing to get something earlier than here. It's actually kind of cool -- and makes for some good conversation when others are looking through my collection and see a Dutch '1408' or my 'Sweeney Todd' Steelbook.

is there a list of bd's that are only available as imports? I'm thinking of ordering two from Canada to get the free shipping but not sure on the second title yet

Very true, if it is something I really want the importing becomes a a viable option. Thinking of getting The Last Legion.

If it’s a movie I want I will Import it or if there is a better release outside the US Ill get the better version. Importing is fun but beware it gets addicting

Actually I would never pay the premium to import any BD. Eventually they will show up here in the states. However if there was no pricing premium, I would import.

Sometimes it's very feasible. Couple of recent ones come to mind (mind you, they were on sale):

I got Sin City from Canada, paid less than $20 total to have it shipped to me, and I know people were doing the same with Freddy V. Jason.

And I know a lot of people were getting 'The Goonies' from the Amazon UK -- that one, too, was under like $20 (with shipping). So sometimes you can get some pretty good deals.

I've been an import addict for years..anime, videogames, CDs, DVDs..

with Blu-ray though I only have a few..the Terminator 2 Steelbook from Japan and Ghost in the Shell DVD/BD combo which I wouldn't have bought if I didn't have store credit. That one really ain't worth it.

I thought about buying Sin City(CDN or the pricier JPN version) but it is coming out here in the US so I might wait it out...

Generally, I avoid importing, because imports often have SD extras in PAL, which means they're unplayable on my PS3 and extras are important to me. I tend to be pretty patient, so I can just wait for eventual U.S. releases on most titles.

I think a lot of it can go down to the "collecting" factor. That, and those of us with very little patience.

It's not like CDs where there's guaranteed worldwide compatibility. There's several imports I would like to have, but they are region-blocked.

Well to twist this on its head slightly, I live in the UK and I buy 99% of my DVDs and BDs from Amazon.com so that I means I import 99% of my titles. I do this because:

1. Often better content (more audio tracks, isolated scores, etc)
2. Often theatrical captions where UK will be player-generated
3. Cheaper
4. Earlier release dates
5. Thinner boxes (trivial I know but space is a premium!)

I only buy British if there's a chance the movie won't come out in the US for some time, e.g. The Boys From Brazil, or if it's British TV.

If I have the DVD then I'm happy to wait for the US version rather than by the UK disc, watch it once, and then buy the US disc when I find out there's a better sound mix, or additional extras, or whatever.
