It would have been more like Blade Runner 2049/Westworld with the themes of whether artificial life should be allowed to have the right to live/have freedom but instead on the genetically engineered/cloned life forms.
But alas, movies that go deep into those questions are box-office disappointments. Most movie-goers don't pay to see sci-fi where engineered beings/"unhumans" framed in a compassionate way are posed to be treated fairly.

Something something xenophobia. Fallen Kingdom had just enough to cause an uproar while also having an inaccurate marketing campaign that'll help push it to over a billion at the box-office.

Going to pass on buying a disc. I hated this boring, predictable cartoon of a film. The only thing it was missing was mustaches for the villains to twirl and go "nyaahh". Shame too, because the beginning was great. But how can there be any tension in a film like this when you actively want these crappy characters to die?

I still think even if it did go deeper into those questions, the fact that it's dinosaurs with great action scenes would have made it do well at the box office either way. If anything it would probably get critically praised more and make people go that were on the fence. Curious to see if maybe they will go deeper into this for the next movie considering the implications at the end.

To be fair, Denis Nedry was also kind of a cartoonish villain, wasn't he? He was just a stereotypical caricature of a fat computer nerd that wasn't well paid. A LOT of Amblin movies have two-dimensional bad guys, even the good ones.

Liked this enough to see it twice though it helped that the tickets were nearly free for the first viewing thanks to the 4K steel code and some AMC Stubs points I had.

More interesting than the first World IMO though that's not really saying a whole lot. I see this being accused of being dumb and lazy but they've pretty much all been like that to varying degrees since TLW. Weakest part for me was introduction of new characters at the beginning; felt very much like the opening of TLW, including that film's deleted scenes, but the new characters here weren't interesting at all. Cromwell especially was wasted. Still, none of the characters irritated me as much as D'Onofrio's mercenary (?), Howard's idiotic portrayal and the two technicians in the first.

I was expecting to get bored once they
[Show spoiler]got off the island
the second go-around but it managed to hold my attention throughout again, perhaps even more this time. I give them credit for trying something new here and the dark interiors of the second half contrast nicely with vibrant outdoor setting of the first film. The whole film seemed designed to set up the third one and I think it succeeded on that front. The next one could be epic if they get it right.

As for some points raised by others: I think I'd prefer Bayona doing the next one and black levels looked pretty good at both of my viewings (one of which was at an IMAX theater). And while my IMAX has literally painfully loud sound, especially during trailers, the dinosaurs still sounded relatively weak in this compared to the original (by which I mean JP, not JW).

Really hoping we get a 4K release in the US with the T-rex in front of the volcano. Our steelbook looks dreadfully dull.

Whatever you said about Trevorrow's writing,
[Show spoiler]at least it was very profound to have the Brachiosaurus be the last dinosaur we see on Isla Nublar, just as it was the first, 25 years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved this movie. It's my favorite of the year, but the part I pointed out is an obvious flaw.

I thought this movie was okay. Wished they had come up with a better 2nd half
[Show spoiler]instead of the whole auctioning going on in the mansion for the rest of the movie.
Made me wonder if this was really the best they could do in 3 years time.

I think Fallen Kingdom can't be thought as a stand alone movie but rather a bridge from point A (Jurassic World/ Isla Nublar) to Point B
[Show spoiler]( The rest of the world)
. So in those 3 years the writers hopefully thought how will the conclude the trilogy. This is basically a setup movie for the next movie, sort of like the second Planet of the Apes.
[Show spoiler] The auction scene was there I guess to have those dinos that were bought to be distributed around the country. We now have dinos all over from those that got auctioned, were let free, and escaped like the Mosasaurus and Stiggy. The after credit scene showed that the flying dinos have already reached Las Vegas.
The question now is how long after the events of JW2 will JW3 take place?

The events of the movies take place in the same year as their release dates.

Yeah it definitely can't be considered as a stand alone since it does have connection from the first movie. But it was obvious that this movie was made as a set up for the 3rd movie and a good way for cash grab. They could have totally done a different way to set up the 3rd movie, since the intent was to have the dinosaur released and cause chaos stateside. It was still entertaining, but wish it had taken a different route to set up the 3rd movie lol.

I'd say the ONLY way this franchise can redeem itself for the 3rd film, after a letdown for a lot of people, is to bring back Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), Sam Neill (Alan Grant), and Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler) with significant amount of role (as the dinosaurs are now roaming stateside), and have them work with the current 2 main characters from JW to resolve this issue. That would definitely bring back a lot of nostalgia from the first film and could be an awesome way to finish the franchise on a high note.

Nedry was still a more well-rounded character (pun...intended?). He wasn't just in it for the money, but also wanted the repect he felt he was owed in life. He was handled far better storywise than any of the JW2 villains.

I had far more issues with the film than I care to bother taking time to type. Dinosaurs are now glorified Pokemon to be deployed at whim to service getting characters to the next story beat. By the time the auction came around I was so bored and never regained interest, not even caring to stay through the credits to see if there was another scene.

Arguing tidbits of what other JP films did or did not do does not salvage this film. And I'm not going to waste my time further arguing, because I'm not going to suddenly say I wasn't bored or didn't hate this film just because you want to name drop Denis Nedry.

ITs sad this film didnt live up to the promise of its opening scene, that was very Spielbergian and I thought we were going to get something better than what we wound up with.

It takes a very special hand to make a dinosaur movie insufferably boring.

I think it's cool to bash trevorrow now on the internet.

The franchise is a difficult one to bring forward ideas of how and why people end up with dinos or why they keep escaping and I think the man's done extremely well.
