Apart from the nail in the stairs scene this is the other thing that bugged me about this movie. If silence was so essential to their survival why on earth would they let her get pregnant? how the hell are they going to stop the baby from crying? somehow she ends up giving birth to the quietest baby ever born.

Still like the movie though. I can overlook these things. lol

Let? Like all pregnancies happen on purpose?

Just starting to watch it now.

There are condoms plus other ways of stopping pregnancy. The movie opens with her rummaging through a pharmacy.

I was thinking the same thing...giving birth in almost complete silence was crazy enough but having to constantly keep the baby from crying is ridiculous...I think the writers just thought it would be interesting to give birth within the scope of the movie's silence but didn't logically think through everything...they just wanted a cool scene

It was an apocalyptic monster movie and you guys are complaining about how improbable a nail on a staircase is?

There are many other issues besides a backwards driven nail.

1. No method of birth control is 100% except for abstinence. None. There are any number of circumstances which could have resulted in an unplanned pregnancy. It happens all the time. I've raised two accidents already.

2. Oxygen relaxes the body. It can aid in sleep. They made plans ahead of time for instances when their baby is crying, hence the small oxygen mask. It would help keep the baby quiet.

Lastly, this is probably one of my favorite movies of the year. It was intense throughout. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but I got pulled in early on.

I'm sure some probably consider this a horror movie, but to me it's drama throughout. You really get a great feel of the family dynamics and you want them all to survive.

Still, it ended too soon and I wanted more.

Great PQ and the AQ was flat out fantastic.

I can't love this movie enough!

I think the whole having a baby by herself and not having an oxygen system to mask the cries at that time in the story... with monsters on the prowl... was a gaping hole... one of many.

I still had fun with it, but due to the creative Atmos mix and Blunt's acting more than anything.

Watched this tonight and the PQ (DV) looked great and I did like the movie except for the pregnancy part. No way she could have been that quiet while having a baby, most women have to be given something for pain.

Women have given birth for thousands of years, oftentimes without assistance, and still happens more often than you think. Plus, they did have the oxygen. Earlier in the movie it shows Emily Blunt's character preparing it ahead of the birth.

It's an awesome movie. I just didn't want it to end.

When the alternative is certain death for you and the baby, yeah, I'm sure almost any woman could be pretty quiet.

I love this movie as well and if Emily wins actress and John wins actor or director award, it would not surprise me in the least.

But the baby couldn't. The father comes in and finds the wife already haven given birth and the child is like a mouse... and at that time, until they went down to the bunker... they had no oxygen system. All too convenient.

I've heard that women often poop as they're giving birth, since the act of pushing out a baby also unavoidably pushes out poop. So, when Emily Blunt's character gave birth, she should have pooped herself.
