I bought the cassette out of a 99 cent bin (everybody was done with the Beastie Boys when this album was released) and it changed the way I listened to music. It still sounds fantastic. Favorite track = Car Thief.

The album was ahead of it's time and after the huge success of Licence to Ill I don't think people understood the change in direction on Paul's Boutique. I remember reading a good quote about this album somewhere- "Their second album was so good that nobody "got it" until their third one came out. " The growth shown between the first and second album is incredible.

i think that is what he meant. a lot of people were probably expecting more license to ill but ended with something completely different and people weren't as thrilled with. and also didn't get it. this has happened to other artists as well. u2 and r.e.m. come to mind.

Yeah, that is what I meant. Compared to the first one it sold very poorly. It seems funny because it's considered such a classic now, but at the time most people weren't interested. After anything gets as big as Liscence to Ill did there is an inevitable backlash and the Beastie Boys were not the "cool "thing to be into when Paul's Boutique was released.I'm just talking about the fickle masses, obviously some people liked the album, I loved it right away.

I love the BBoys and have seen them live a few times. Paul's Boutique is classic. Maybe I'll pick it up on vinyl. Bboys are supposedly mixing a new album for release.

Aside from the tour, Adam, Adam and Mike talked about...their next album, which they’re working on now; (Yauch says it’s “overwhelming in a good way”)...

thank you. the one album i'm constantly reminded of when this topic comes up in monster. although it sold like gangbusters it has become one of the most sold back cd's. some time after the album came out so many sold their copy back to used to record shops. it got so bad that the price used was extremely dirt cheap. it's not that monster wasn't great. it's just that it wasn't another automatic for the people or out of time.

Colored vinyl tends to sound like crap, but it would be an interesting collectible.

I saw Led Zep 1-4, each album had the original cover on the vinyl itself...but for 40 a piece? I think not!
