United Kingdom Il Postino - Cult Films

I am very much looking forward to this release and I just found out that it got pushed back to October. Hopefully they treat it (and us) to the release it deserves, with a solid transfer and (at least) a few decent extras.

Had no idea this was coming to blu ray - it's my wife's favourite film, and in turn, has become one of my favourites over the years. Definitely will be picking this up.

Not sure, Gary Tooze at dvd beaver dot com has reviewed several Cult Films titles and some seem to be region-free, others 'B' (UK) locked.

Will have to wait until reviews start trickling out...

My Amazon order was sent via DHL about a week after street date, which means I should've had it in-hand by now. Just checked tracking again and now it says "Delay in delivery due to weather or natural disaster

I don't see a lot of people talking about this film. I've never seen the film in it's entirety but I always thought of it in the same league as Cinema Paradiso. Don't know why. Looking forward to sitting down and watching it finally.

Hope you enjoy the film as much as we do. I wouldn't compare it too much with Cinema Paradiso beyond the obvious - period setting, Phillipe Noiret, etc - but it's a beautiful little film. Let's hope the transfer reflects that.

Won't be able to post my thoughts because my modded Oppo won't play it
I've had issues with this player before, where it gets "stuck" on one region and then just mysteriously gets unstuck when it feels like it. Now the issue is it plays BDs from all regions without having to enter a code, but it won't play il Postino. A region-free player that works without entering codes sounds like a dream come true until it refuses to play certain discs. Grrr

My order wasn't shipped yet, even though I placed it about 3 weeks ago. Got this message today:
"Il Postino aka Michael Radford's 'The Postman' (Dual Format Edition) [Blu-ray]"
Previous estimated arrival date: November 23 2018 - January 11 2019
New estimated arrival date: November 16 2018 - November 21 2018

....sorry to hear your problems with your modded player. One of the many reasons I'd simply buy a bluray player from another region and simply add an inexpensive step up or step down transformer. Zero issues doing it that way ever. Modding a player is going to lead to problems sooner or later for many players.

I have it and think the PQ is pretty good. Is it excellent reference picture quality, NO. Is it better than the DVD released many years ago, Yes. The PQ is kind-of rough at first, but then after a few minutes, it settles in and starts to look pretty good throughout the movie. Also, the 45 minute interview with Michael Radford is quite informative and worth a watch. I just wish they had included a trailer too.
