Blu-ray Samurai

Hey friend, been awhile! I loved it. Watched it again today actually. It was everything and more that I wanted The Hero and The Terror to be (still the only Chuck movie that I can't fully get behind.)
I've been biding my time getting into Enter/Revenge of the Ninja and re-visiting the American Ninja flicks but it was nice to get a new Chuck film on blu. Real solid movie. |

I liked the fighting scene in the bar the most where Chuck´s fat partner sees a pair of tits for the first time

It feels like that scene was added just so that Norris could show off. Not that I hate it, but its different from the rest of the movie. On the other hand though, the sci-fi is so hokey that it might derail the rest of the movie if the rest of the movie was nothing but seriousness.

Yeah, he's actually appeared in a lot of well known movies I own: Silent Rage, In the Line of Fire, The Shawshank Redemption, Heat, Air Force One, Eraser, The Green Mile and The Mist.

Last night I watched White Line Fever, from the Payback Time Triple Feature blu-ray. This one stars one Jan-Michael Vincent as independent trucker Carol Jo Hummer who falls afoul of a big business conglomerate that wants to control all the truckers and make them carry contraband. The screenplay is all over the place with several absurd moments. When CJ is blacklisted by the local boss, all he has to do is brandish a shotgun and he gets a job. The bad guys harass CJ in all manner of ways, including hijacking / vandalizing his truck and even trying to burn down his house. But all the truckers who till then were cowering in fear suddenly put their support for CJ. It all makes very little sense, but the film is made with a certain level of gusto.
Compared to the other 2 features in this collection, WLF has a little more social (you can play a drinking game on the number of times bank mortgages are mentioned) and relationship drama, and CJ is more human in his capabilities than the typical macho action star (more than a couple of goons, he is outpowered). Jan-Michael in the lead emits a naive enthusiasm and Kay Lenz as his wife gives good supprot. The film is also very toned down in terms of violence and sex, and could easily pass for a TV feature. Some of the action scenes like where CJ climbs atop his truck for a shotgun showdown with his pursuers are exciting. But the good points don't quite erase the harebrained scripting. Mill Creek gives a decent though not stunning transfer of the film (at least it doesn't look manipulated). Sound is stereo and doesn't have much depth, but suits the modest nature of the film. No extras, of course. ![]() |

Though I already bought this collection at Target, I just ordered the Australian blu-ray of "Blind Fury" through Blowitoutahere, as it has lossless audio and most likely has less compression artifacts than on this Mill Creek triple feature disc.
It was $10 too, so that helped ease the pain of buying a second copy. |

I bought this only for Blind Rage.
Aside from the occasional artifact, the film looked pretty good. Detail is exceptional especially on close-ups. The fine grain works really well with this. Colors and texture looked great. SQ is okay. It's pretty formulaic for an action film, but what makes it stand out is Rutger Hauer. He plays Nick Parker, a blinded Vietnam vet with heart, a great sense of humor and who has a knack for martial arts. This film really deserved a sequel. |

Man I was pumped to watch something on this disc last night, got it from Deep Discount this week. Opened it up and the disc was cracked through the middle, what a bummer! It would cost me over half the price of the disc to send it back for an exchange, I don't think I'll bother. Probably just order it again from somewhere else.

I'd say this release is worth it for the two films that are otherwise not available on blu-ray. |

I wish Silent Rage got an Indicator Blu-ray or something with lossless audio and better image compression.
No one cares about the Jan-Michael Vincent film, so the triple feature is a good home for it. |
