I want this to be good. I've been debating taking Friday afternoon off of work to go see it... but I just can't help but think this is going to be yet another terrible PG-13 horror effort filled to the brim with mainstream horror cliche's and none of the imagination that the online stories themselves contained.

Pretty much. I have a feeling The Meg will end up the least ridiculous of the two this weekend.

Im excited to see this. The visuals/atmosphere look promising atleast. It shouldn't be dull like Bye Bye Man and Prom Night remake.

I remembered that "The Meg" was coming out this Friday as well just this afternoon and have been going back and fourth between which would make for the better Friday afternoon matinee. I feel like The Meg will be the better film in the long run, but I'm not sure which will provide a better theatrical experience. I saw "Blair Witch" in a completely empty theater except for myself and it was awesome, so now I'm tempted to go to the film which I think will have less people in attendance to try and duplicate that experience.

I hope this is good too. We need more movies with the foggy “Silent Hill” vibe.

IMO this actually looks pretty good for the atmosphere. If the film has the same atmosphere as the trailers then I'm sure I'll actually like it. It seems dark and eerie. Hopefully it doesn't overdo the jump scares, but I'm rooting for it.

I agree... some of the early atmospheric shots look really good. My concern comes from the later aspects of the trailers (which I assume come after they conjure Slenderman) where the usual blurry/shakey head movements, black eyes, black viney stuff from mouths, all start coming into play and the film starts to look like every generic horror effort from the last 5-6 years.

From the tv spots I’ve seen for this, this looks pretty dark for a PG-13

Yeah, there's a scene of a woman in a bathtub missing the front of her skull.

I get to drive 35 minutes in order to see this since, you know, the Slender Man murders took place near me and Marcus/AMC won't be screening it locally.

Why is there such an uproar about this, when countless movies have been made from tragedies. I don't get it.

No clue since other than the actual title and inclusion of the character, it has nothing to do with the murders. Some can argue it's 'too soon' and with the girls just being sentenced 6 months ago, I get the arguments but, I feel like its overblown.

However, Wisconsin is ridiculous when it comes to this sh*t. You're talking about a state that was in an uproar when My Friend Dahmer was getting released last Thanksgiving and Marcus, AMC and Landmark all had to pull it from being shown here a few days in advance because of an uproar.

Hell, when that second trailer dropped, one of our local channels did a segment on it and interviewed people's reaction to it and almost everyone was "disgusted" when they showed the scene of the 3 girls walking into the forest, even though the 3 girls in the film are going in the woods to SAVE their friend.

Darn shame this has no deleted scenes, so much missing from the trailers. I can tell this thing was shredded in the editing room. But it probably wouldn’t have made it that much better, so terrible.
