![]() ![]() A man wakes up to find himself literally alone in the world, and goes about trying to find other survivors, as well as to find out what happened. He suspects that a government research project he was involved in had something to do with the disappearance of everyone. Eventually he finds several other people, and once they begin to trust each other they try to figure out why they were left on earth. Coming to Blu-ray in October from Umbrella, utilising a brand new 2K master! Wrong Cover at the minute, Simon Sherry just released this pic on his FB: ![]() BDinfo: Code:

Probably the best cover art of the lot, but I don't need a third version.
If you've seen the film go on... [Show spoiler]

I'm not sure if it's just me...
But goddammit, there a bizarre wobbling/warping effect throughout the entire presentation. The image is constantly wobbling, which resembles regular gate weave, but the image is warped every time it wobbles - things in the frame look misshapen during the wobble. It's really distracting and hard to ignore. It looks like somebody tried to stabilise the image digitally, but that was the consequence. It could also be an encoding error, given the issue with The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith reported here. It's present on different TVs, with different players. I haven't seen this issue reported with the Arrow or Film Movement discs. I'd be interested in hearing from others who are also seeing this, and from those who have the Arrow disc, to hear how it plays. |

The warping/wobbling gets a bit less noticeable as time goes on. I first noticed right at the beginning. But I can still detect it later on. Just focusing on part of the frame, the object or piece of clothing is slightly warped for a frame. Again it looks like the result of digital stabilization gone wrong.
And just a bit further to add to that... Not sure if it’s related, but it looks like there’s a frame rate issue. Because looking closer, cuts often take more than a frame to accomplish - the previous frame and the next frame seem to “merge” for a frame, like a dissolve. I have also detected dropped frames when actors and vehicles are moving. It’s noticeable. I HAVE seen this effect before. I’ve seen it on discs that I’ve authored myself, and these types of artifacts from my experience are the result of a 1080p encode of a 25fps master. Now if this is the Arrow master and there are no such issues with that, it APPEARS that Umbrella either received the master as 25fps, or converted it to 25fps, and encoded it at 1080p. Do we know if this is the Arrow master? (Before anybody asks, all sorts of digital filtering are turned off on my TVs.) |

filming in those days was honest and raw, and so was the acting, Big Bruno Lawrence has the right personality to carry his existential dilemma. So the film has an earnest charm carrying it through. I was quite taken with Api, he seemed to have some menace in him as a tough Warrior, or he was a gentle lover, he was also custodian to Maori Law as he kills his brothers wife, which in of itself feels like Maketu and or Utu. Maketu the practice of Black Magic, Utu the act of Revenge. Api seemed demonically charged to take his brothers wife and subsequently lost his in the transition to the second world. He'd made it his duty in this regard and it feels like deep spiritual grief. That ending though, I'd hang it framed on my wall. where could he possibly be now? 4/5 |

![]() I have to wonder if there is a persistent frame rate issue over there which is causing this. It's all speculation at this point mind you, and I'd much prefer to continue getting their releases so they keep bringing more great titles to disc over here. |

I have both Umbrella's and the one from Film Movement. The wobble is there on both. I may have noticed the occasional frame skip on both as well. And seeing as how Arrow has nothing other than "high definition presentation" listed in their specs, I'm assuming they are all from the same master. Capsaholic shows slightly better contrast on the Arrow than FM. The Umbrella looks about the same as Arrow.
