What about BD Audio? Wouldn't it have a better chance at adoption? I really wish enough people would get of the mp3 bandwagon so it would be viable.

BD Audio. This is what I am hoping for.

Regardless whether BD-Audio or some other format that comes out next, what's important is the backing by content producers ie record labels. Just look at what the BDA achieved. Not only CEs backing the format but the studio themselves.

SACDs sounds more vinyl like to me that DVD-A. Not only that, Hybrid SACD is compatible with CD and DVD players/drives. SACD gets my vote, especially now that we've gone HD. DVD-A videos would only be in SD.

it does not rival CD sound, it dominates it. It also dominates most DVD and more than most blu-rays.

Not all records sound better, but I must admit, more than most

With all respect (and you've earned a lot), that is complete misinformed nonsense. I have 20+ year old records that I've played many times, and the surfaces are as quiet, and the sound quality just as good today as the day I bought them.

Records "wearing out" is a sign of poor handling/storage and/or playback on a turntable that isn't very good, or is set up poorly.

In any case, IMO the old vinyl record and playback system is still "obsolete".
You're entitled to your opinion (no matter how wrong it is). :-)

That ELP turntable is hardly new. It was first released more than 10 years ago. I'll take my Forsell Air Reference/Lyra Parnassus front end over the ELP any day of the week.

I have well over 300 vinyl albums and 3 turntables. one of my favorites is coast of marseilles by jimmy buffet and imho the cd will NEVER sound like the vinyl, ever, it has some pops yes but that's also one of the reasons i love it so much, it has a life of it's own. i just bought all 4 of jack johnson's albums on vinyl also, in my house vinyl is more alive than cd's
