After seeing Alpha, the 2nd trailer just makes me laugh. Reminds me of the fake family friendly trailer for The Shining. Alpha only has one lighted hearted scene. But the new trailer makes it most of the movie is like that.

Doesn't In Bruges win the misleading trailer award every time?

There are a lot, but Hereditary stands out recently. Also, I noticed with Alpha that the character's never speak in the trailers, probably trying to hide the fact that it's a subtitled film (I remember one foreign language movie did the trailer just with English dialogue, which was like 10% of the actual film's dialogue)

Seven Psychopaths too, both are basically art films advertised as Guy Richie and Tarantino knock-offs (respectively).
Seems with Three Billboards they finally got a hang of how to advertise a Martin McDonagh film. |

The Meg's entire ad campaign suggested a film that would be more bonkers like the Piranha 3D remakes. Sunny skies, lots of swimmers in jeopardy. I was surprised to see how much of it took place at night on the research laboratory. The film itself also screams Chinese co production more than the advertising.

That was the first movie that came to my mind when I read the thread title. The trailer was awful, and I had no interest at all. Then I saw the movie and absolutely loved it.
Rogue One trailer was not misleading at all. It is 100% representative of the film. The tone, story, etc were exactly as expressed in the trailer. Yes, there are a few shots in there that are not in the final film, but that happens in lots of trailers, as they are put together before the film is finalized. |
