Default Amazon pre-orders for physical changing (not for the better).

https://kinjadeals.theinventory.com/...s=nativestream

Quote:
Amazon just announced that it will be discontinuing its 20% preorder discount on physical video games on August 28, and replacing it with a $10 Prime member credit on select games. A $12 cash discount is certainly preferable to a $10 store credit, though it sounds like some digital games may be included in the new benefit, so we’ll withhold our verdict until we see how wide-ranging the credits are.

In the meantime though, you still have until the 28th to lock in preorders with the 20% discount. We’ve listed out some of the most popular upcoming titles below, but the discount should work on basically any physical game, as long as you’re a Prime member. Just note that you won’t see the discount until checkout, and you won’t be charged until the game ships.
Can somebody edit the title (please remove going)?

After my Gamers Club expires that's it for pre ordering games for me.

We all knew this was coming after Best Buy ended GCU.

The most devastating part of this announcement is that Twitch Prime members will no longer get ad-free viewing starting in October. Keep your 20% discount, that's fine. I'm almost all digital. But now, I'm going to have to subscribe to Twitch Turbo which is $8.99/month if I don't want to see ads. I really don't want to subscribe to another monthly service.

Seems like everyday I'm finding a new reason to give Amazon the middle finger. If I didn't have the student discount for Prime, I'd drop that too when it expires in Feb for me. I'll keep it though until the student discount ends.

I’m officially done with both Amazon and Netflix. My last couple of Prime orders were not dispatched until 3-4 days after the order (in stock items) and if I’ll have to watch ads on Twitch after my sub expires/renews, why keep paying Amazon $120 to do so?

I’ll happily spend that money towards Gamepass.

I'm cancelling my Prime in October. no worries. I'll just pre order exclusive game I want at the local Gamestop and pick it up on release day. I could care less about saving a bit if it's a game I really want. Some people are also really sensitive on the exclusives for pre ordering and stuff. I just want the dam game.

Amazon still has compelling deals in most categories, they just lost interest in media years ago. No retailer can expect to grow their business by focusing on diminishing markets, whether real or perceived. Hence their policy changed from price leader to only bothering to keep up with their bigger competitors. Game developers aren't reliant on physical distribution this gen, so they're not pushing it anymore either. They're far more interested in convincing kids and adults who don't know better to pay the same for less through digital. Even when they charge less digitally they make more than with physical and they no longer have to fret over lost sells from discs they've already sold to consumers or rental outlets getting resold or passed around. The really crazy thing is: they're charging more than they ever have, especially when you factor in all the pieces that are held back to be released as DLC, and relatively few seem to care. I guess I'm not the gamer I used to be, as I stopped preordering games years ago when all this DLC nonsense really started getting to be too much and I felt like I'd become an unwilling beta tester for game developers who couldn't make their games work right until months to a year after release. I suspect the PS4 will be my last console.

Lame, but expected.

I’ll be buying many fewer games at launch with this gone and my GCU expiring years end. I need to spend less on hobbies anyway as buying a house has savings down and some repairs and upgrades needed.

As I said in a related thread, I'm good with this if it means all the unavailable games will becomes available for pre-order. The discount is no good if you can't use it. I just wonder how much they will leverage the "select games" part of it.
