I didn't buy a single Blu-ray from 1972 to about 2010.

Not. Even. One.

Well my very first Blu-ray was when my grandma accidentally got me Casablanca on BD for Xmas 2008, when I asked for DVD. I kept it, but I didn't actually get a Blu-ray player until July 2013, and didn't buy another disc (Tenchi Muyo OVA collection) until then. Not counting that, I think I've gone 4 or 5 months without getting anything at some point. I started collecting as I was finishing high school, and I had very little disposable income at that time.

My longest buying drought would be about three weeks and that was due to a serious illness sapping my energy and my wallet.

I always create a Black Friday list of movies that I know will be 1/2 or 1/3 of the price later in the year. Those probably don't count for what you're talking about, because I want those movies, but don't NEED to have them and can wait.

For those DAY 1 purchases I had to have, probably just a few days of a drought, maybe .a week. I can't wait, no patience.

I've done that on a smaller scale but I really should start keeping of list of movies that I want but can wait a little bit for.

Longest time for me was probably when I was between jobs, about 2 months. (gotta replenish that bank account!) Yeah, gas in the car and food on the table suddenly become more important...

I don't think I've ever "endured" not buying a blu-ray. I've endured a couple of eye surgeries, the death of my wife and my mother, being out-of-work, and several other negative life events but I've never had to "endure" not making a non-essential purchase.

But I have delayed immediate gratification at times.

When I was in school I could go months between purchases. Nowadays I think my record is maybe a couple of weeks.

Anything more than a week and I'm a wreck lol.. I know it's bad.. very bad
I'm in the same situation. I really need to stop buying and get some of my stuff watched, it piles up faster than I can watch at this point. I did cancel all my pre-orders for tomorrow but that was because of an unexpected car expense and I didn't have the money. I'm addicted.

I made my first mistake....

I've been building my Black Friday list, holding off on all the movies I can wait for to get those BIG discounts until today.

I was at Best Buy picking up Deadpool 2 (4K) when I saw the Predator 3-Movie Collection in 4K just sitting there. I gave in and decided to use my $20 GC on the collection making it $21.99 for all three movies. That price works for me, but I'm curious how low it could get. If it's $41 now, maybe $27.99 on Black Friday? I guess we will see.

Having an updated iPhone makes Blu-ray abstinence difficult.

I've ordered Blu-rays on my phone while...

1. Lying on a hospital bed during a six-day stay with a ruptured appendix infection
2. Standing knee-deep in forest wetlands a mile from any civilization while I check an environmental erosion control complaint on my job
3. Waiting between sets at an outdoor concert festival of 1980s synth bands while my friends are going to get drinks
4. During a five-minute break in the middle of a two-day out-of-town work conference
5. Sitting in my car to stay out of cold weather early in the morning 20 minutes before the start of a fall season marathon race

I've actually slowed my purchases to build a fund for converting my garage. But I'm still buying at least one a week
